Amidst all this scandal with the selling of the Eucharist on ebay and other sacrileges, I was wondering how many people receive the Eucharist on their tongue or in their hands??? Discuss. God Bless.

As a Byzantine Catholic, we Have To receive the Eucharist on the tongue…there is NO way around it.

When I was younger and in Roman Rite grade school, we still had to receive the Eucharist on the tongue (late 60’s-early 70’s).

The Body and Blood Soul and Divinity, IMO is TOO precious to handle. I let the Priest, im persona Christi, bring the Living GOD to me!

I have always received in the hands. Recently I had to receive on the tongue as I was carrying a baby. It didn’t phase me to switch as soon as I realized how problematic reception in the hand would be under the circumstances. Still, I prefer the hand.

Always the hand…much much less chance of dropping our lord!
I have been to Latin Masses and I have never seen the Eucharist fall onto the paten, but I have seen twice the Eucharist fall when it slipped out of someone’s hands during a Novus Ordo Mass. (THATS JUST WHAT I HAVE SEEN)

I don’t have consecrated hands, so I receive on the tongue…I know the belief that only consecrated hands can tough the Host has fallen to the wayside due to the “Spirit of Vatican II”…however I still hold on to that belief.

Hey…to you Louisiana guys…I live in Baton Rouge and go to St. Agnes Parish…it is a very traditional Parish and we have an Indult TLM every Sunday…I know they have an Indult in New Orleans as well. There is another guy from Baton Rouge on here too…he is brotherhrolf He is an outstanding guy…I look forward to talking with both of you in the future.

I now receive on the tongue, since Pentecost. This happened when I changed parishes to one that is more orthodox and traditional. The Body of Christ is intincted into the Blood so it is necessary to receive on the tongue unless you signal in advance by placing your hands out.

However, I had trouble with receiving on the tongue the first few days, but that changed after I recognized that what I was feeling was pride - not wanting someone else to put Jesus in my mouth. I then humbled myself and experienced Communion in a very different way.

In a state of reverence and awe, no doubt unworthily for all my preparation, with a humble yet grateful heart…whether or not the priest, deacon or EEM places it in my hands or mouth.

I have seen hosts break in peoples hands, people drop them while putting them in their mouths and have heard from priests who have witnessed people putting the host in their pockets. The ebay situation would have been far less likely if this was not a choice.

I have never once received communion in the hand since I became Catholic and don’t plan on ever doing it.

I have recieved Him in my hand once, I did not like that way. Hopefully, never again

I’ve received in the hand 2-3 times since I converted to Catholicism 2 1/2 years ago- NEVER again (except to prevent desecration). I don’t like seeing others do it. I know Americans have permission to, so I try my best not to think any less of those who do, but I avoid watching others receive, and if I am in a position to do so charitably, I make my opinions on the matter very clear.

like most aussies - receive on the hand and receive from the chalice as well

I am an EMHC as well so I know how we receive communion - we used to have a lot of personal intinction (ie communicants dipping the host in the body of christ into the precious blood) but the bishop recently stopped that happening

Do you have a consecrated mouth? I know a lot of my worst sins are commited via my mouth and not my hands so in some ways my hands are more worthy to touch Jesus then my mouth is. Although, like all of us, I am never truly worthy enough to recieve Jesus.

Your Bishop did the right thing and here is why:

From: Redemptionis Sacramentum (2004)
[103.] The norms of the Roman Missal admit the principle that in cases where Communion is administered under both kinds, “the Blood of the Lord may be received either by drinking from the chalice directly, or by intinction, or by means of a tube or a spoon”.[191] As regards the administering of Communion to lay members of Christ’s faithful, the Bishops may exclude Communion with the tube or the spoon where this is not the local custom, though the option of administering Communion by intinction always remains. If this modality is employed, however, hosts should be used which are neither too thin nor too small, and the communicant should receive the Sacrament from the Priest only on the tongue.[192]

On the tongue from a priest, in the hand from a lay person.

Quite often, a lay person got confused when I try to receive on the tongue from them.
