Tongue — I started out as Tongue when I was little then switched to hand (gasp!) and now am back on tongue though sometimes I’m afraid that my tongue is not all the way out… hmmm.
Exactly my own experience since I became a Catholic - and I also always kneel to receive - I do also only attend the traditional mass where kneeling is the only option, but I wouldn’t do it any other way given that it is the Real Presence.I have never once received communion in the hand since I became Catholic and don’t plan on ever doing it.
What if … there was no other way than to receive in the hand? Then what would you do? How would you feel? … and why?Exactly my own experience since I became a Catholic - and I also always kneel to receive - I do also only attend the traditional mass where kneeling is the only option, but I wouldn’t do it any other way given that it is the Real Presence.
That is purely a hypothetical question which I don’t believe I’ll ever have to confront in reality. But of course if there was truly no alternative - then as a Catholic - I’d receive by hand. If it ever happens I’ll tell you how it feels- but don’t hold your breath - the wait might see you out! What if … there was no other way than to receive in the hand? Then what would you do? How would you feel? … and why?
Just curious.
The Biblical way:Amidst all this scandal with the selling of the Eucharist on ebay and other sacrileges, I was wondering how many people receive the Eucharist on their tongue or in their hands??? Discuss. God Bless.

Have you ever considered John’s Gospel…??Receiving on the tongue is my own personal act of reverence to Our Lord.
God Bless,

I agree with you Scout.I always receive in the hand. I don’t see why that’s such a big deal. The original apostles didn’t receive on the tongue. It’s just that somewhere along the way, someone decided that the Body of Christ was too precious to handle. I don’t know why. People touched Jesus all the time when He was on Earth, and He touched them. Personally, I find great joy and comfort being able to touch Jesus before I receive him in Holy Communion.
Please don’t misunderstand me. I’m not saying that we should in any way be disrespectful to the Host. All I’m saying is that if it was good enough for the Apostles, then it’s good enough for me.
Scout :tiphat:
What’s your point?I have been to Latin Masses and I have never seen the Eucharist fall onto the paten, but I have seen twice the Eucharist fall when it slipped out of someone’s hands during a Novus Ordo Mass. (THATS JUST WHAT I HAVE SEEN)

According to Scripture (Luke 22:14-20). It says, “Then he took the bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them…”. He did the same with the cup. When we read this, we know that Jesus didn’t take the wine and place it on their tongues. He gave them the cup and they drank from it. It’s the same with the bread. He broke it and gave it to them. It doesn’t say he placed it on their tongues. He handed it to them and they ate it.Scout,
How do you know? Please correct me if I’m wrong, but I always thought that scripture was silent as to how the apostles actually received the Body of Our Lord.

While I agree that it doesn’t say he placed it on their tongues, it also doesn’t say that “he handed it to them”.It doesn’t say he placed it on their tongues. He handed it to them and they ate it.
This really wasn’t just any Passover Feast. This was a special case. Also, you have to remember that this was the Passover Feast. When the Jews at the Passover, someone didn’t come around and place the unleavened bread on their tongues. They broke it and ate it from their hands.
