May the Peace of the Lord be with you. Are you insinuating that Bishops are worthier than any other believer, therefore, are they the only ones worthy to touch with their hands the Precious Body of the Lord? Let us remember that EVERYONE PARTAKING OF THE LAST SUPPER WAS A
SINNER, except our Lord. And if all of them were BISHOPS, except the Lord [Lord and King of Bishops], then let us not forget BISHOP JUDAS ISCARIOT. The Catholic Church law clearly states that we have two types of ministers allow to distribute the Precious Body and Blood of the Lord: ordinary ministers(clergy:bishops, priests, and deacons) and extraordinary ministers (qualified and instituted lay people).
I believe the subject of this discussion is:"
How do you receive the Body of Christ? The church law clearly states, as you have read on previous replies to this subject, that it is legal and appropriate for the believer to receive the Body of the Lord on the Tongue or on the Hand. Either way is blessed by our beloved Catholic Church. That answer is VERY CLEAR.
That some people prefer one way or the other remains a PERSONAL CHOICE. Let us NOT CAST JUDGMENT on one way or the other. I believe WE ARE MISSING THE POINT.
Complaining about Jesus’ disciples the Pharisees and scribes said to Jesus,
"They do not wash their hands when they eat at meal. He said to them in reply, ‘…This people honors me with their lips, but THEIR HEARTS ARE FAR FROM ME.’ …He summoned the crowd and said to them, ‘HEAR AND UNDERSTAND, IT IS NOT WHAT ENTERS ONE’S MOUTH THAT DEFILES THAT PERSON. BUT WHAT COMES OUT OF THE HEART IS WHAT DEFILES ONE.’" (Mat. 15:2,8,10-11). Explaining this parable to His disciples Jesus said,
"BUT THE THINGS THAT COME OUT OF THE MOUTH COME FROM THE HEART, AND THEY DEFILE. FROM THE HEART COME EVIL THOUGHTS, MURDER, ADULTERY, UNCHASTITY, THEFT, FALSE WITNESS, BLASPHEMY. THESE ARE WHAT DEFILE A PERSON…" (Mat. 15:18-20
James added,
"If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, HIS RELIGION IS VAIN." No wonder in his 1st letter to the Corinthians Paul writes,
"Therefore whoever eats the bread or drink the cup of the Lord UNWORTHILY will have to answer for the body and blood of the Lord. A person SHOULD EXAMINE HIMSELF…", (11:27-28),
My brothers and sisters in the Lord, we sin with our tongues and we also sin with our hands, What makes one part worthier than the other? But these two, the hands and the tongue, OBEY THE HEART. And like our Master said "
BUT WHAT COMES OUT OF THE HEART IS WHAT DEFILES ONE.
Therefore, HOW ARE WE TO RECEIVE THE BODY OF THE LORD? We are to receive the Body of the Lord with a humble and contrite heart; a heart overwhelmed with a great sense of RESPECT, REVERENCE, HONOR, ADMIRATION, and LOVE to the Almighty God. We receive His Precious Body in a state of AWE and with a spirit of THANKSGIVING.
