If you are confessing to a bishop, abbot, etc., is he still “father” in the confessional or should his title be used if the penitent knows the confessor’s position?
You can say, “bless me Bishop” if you know that he is a bishop. All confessors are spiritual fathers; so father is always appropriate. (Abbot actually means father.)
