It’s getting hotter on YouTube. Simply look up “Blasphemy Challenge”. It’s known to be the “unforgivable sin”. But I also read/watched somewhere about proving the “Blasphemy Challenge” false and what the verse ACTUALLY means.
Mark 3:29:
But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.
Matthew 12:31-32:
Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

Maybe this is more appropriate in the “Sacred Scripture” section.

Please explain clearly. The above doesn’t present any clear challenge. Exactly what is the blasphemy challenge?

Oh. A couple of atheists/satanists/etc. i dunno, believe that once you say “I deny the Holy Spirit” then they can no longer be forgiven. Watch some vids on YouTube.

You record a video of yourself saying ‘I deny the Holy Spirit’. That’s all.

Problem is, it isn’t blasphemy. It’s a simple statement of non-belief that’s been trumped up and claimed to be the ‘unforgivable sin’. People are buying that – on both sides – championing it and being incredibly offended by it because they don’t know it for what it really is. The people who are so offended are ignorant; the people doing it are ignorant and arrogant.

I swear, kids these days…

This is another one of those unfortunate events where Christians can be attacked and we see it as entertainment. This “Blasphemy Challenge” is a joke and has nothing to do with Scripture’s rendering of this unforgivable sin. It has nothing to do with atheism as an atheist cannot blaspheme against what they don’t believe exists. Scripture states that if one refuses the forgiveness of God then they cannot be forgiven. It has nothing to do with stating a denial of the Holy Spirit. What an extreme display of ignorance and how sad…😦 teachccd

I thought people already knew about this. But I guess not a lot of people here use YouTube.

Actually, I think that’s the whole point. To an atheist, it’s no big deal to deny God or the Holy Spirit because God doesn’t exist. They do it for several reasons, not the least of which is to encourage other atheists not to be afraid to “come out” as atheists. Their point is that fear of damnation shouldn’t be a reason to follow a religion that worships an undetectable being.

At any rate, they are wrong about the meaning of blaspheming the Holy Spirit, so it’s all rather pointless.

Claim Jesus miracles come from the devil, this is what Jesus was talking about when he was saying Blasphamey against the Holy Spirit 🙂

Jesus taught this after it was apparent that there were jewish teacher’s of the law who were rejecting the revelation Jesus brought even after having witnessed it in a way that there was no reason to do so other than they knowingly desired evil over good.

He asked them to believe He was from God because of the miracles they had seen if not for His teaching. He said this because if after having received the full revelation of God a person still rejects Him there is nothing more that God can do to bring a change of heart.

Satan’s sin is unforgiveable as is the spirits that followed him because they possessed the full revelation of God in as much as their particular state of being could receive it. What more could God do?

For the same reason Jesus warned the teacher’s who were receiving the full revelation of God in as much as they could receive it that they were in danger of a sin that is only committed by those who would reject God to His face. The heart that can do this is a heart that will not change and is fit to judge. This person already exists in an eternal state of choosing evil and rejecting Holiness.

Any sin committed while we exist in a state of ‘becoming’ is forgiveable. Eternal primarily means changeless. A sin committed in an eternal state is a sin against the Holy Spirit and a sin against the Holy Spirit is a sin committed in an eternal state.

No one knows but God who are in this eternal state of rejecting God. Christ has died, Christ is risen, what more could God do?

If I’m not mistaken, the whole Blasphemy Challenge was started as a marketing scheme for the movie The God Who Wasn’t There. The film maker (or someone involved with the distribution) offered free dvds to the first 1001 people to take up the challenge. The web site explaining the whole deal is here.

It was all sort of juvenile, but what do you expect from marketing people?

If that were the case, the Pharisees would already have committed the unforgiveable sin, in which case I doubt Jesus would bother to tell them so. In either case, Jesus’ sermon in Matthew 12 lacks the clear indication that the Pharisees were guilty of the unforgiveable sin, seemingly indicating that they were not guilty of it, but pretty close to committing it.
