How do you think God looks at you?

Is God proud of you? Is he pleased?

St. John Vianney once said,
"Oh, how bitterly shall we regret at the hour of death the time we have given to pleasures, to useless conversations, to repose, instead of having employed it in mortification, in prayer, in good works, in thinking of our poor misery, in weeping over our poor sins; then we shall see that we have done nothing for Heaven.
I always try to be encouraging to others when they have spiritual difficulty or doubt, but I don’t know how to encourage myself. I often think of myself as a huge failure in God’s eyes. The above quote would seem to reinforce that.

God is not all doom and gloom, He likes some pretty surprising people, He probably likes you too 🙂

Everyone stop making God doom and gloom! He is aweome and fun ugggghhhhhh!!!

Then you need to read more of what the Saint says!

He goes on:

“Oh, my children, how sad it is! Three-quarters of those who are Christians labor for nothing but to satisfy this body, which will soon be buried and corrupted, while they do not give a thought to their poor soul, which must be happy or miserable for all eternity. They have neither sense nor reason: it makes one tremble.”

Do you never give a thought to your soul? Are you utterly worldly in the way you look at things, never caring for God? Do you not even care whether your actions are sinful or not, whether you offend God or not? I doubt that! But that is the sort of person St. John Vianney addresses in your quote.

The Saint says:

“Worldly people say, it is too difficult to save one’s soul. Yet nothing is easier. To observe the Commandments of God and the Church, and to avoid the seven capital sins; or if you like to put it so, to do good and avoid evil: that is all. Good Christians, who labor to save their souls and to work out their salvation, are always happy and contented; they enjoy beforehand the happiness of Heaven: they will be happy for all eternity. While bad Christians, who lose their souls, are always to be pitied; they murmur, they are sad, they are as miserable as stones; and they will be so for all eternity. See what a difference!”

And a little later:

“See, my children, we must reflect that we have a soul to save, and an eternity that awaits us. The world, its riches, pleasures, and honours will pass away. Let us take care, then. The saints did not all begin well; but they all ended well. We have begun badly; let us end well, and we shall go one day and meet them in Heaven.”

Be of good cheer, and trust in God. St. John Vianney was not remotely “doom and gloom” in his perception of God. He was full of optimism and love, while yet maintaining that even the smallest thing done out of love for God can make a massive difference in eternity, and that we should always strive to meet that level of holiness that God has for us. But he is not at all communicating that we should all feel hopeless! It’s exactly the opposite.

People misuse quotes all the time! Especially if they have an agenda. Always search out the context.

I feel as such:

16
For God so loved the world that he gave* his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.
17
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn* the world, but that the world might be saved through him.

Loved by God and a sinner in need of God’s forgiveness, and mercy.

NAB : John 3: 16/17

all have sinned and are deprived of the glory of God.

NAB: Romans :3: 23

Our God is an ever loving, merciful, forgiving for those that seek it, and just God.
Our God is an awesome God!~

Mary.

You’ve honestly captured my whole thought process right here. Ever since I started trying harder to live a fruitful life. All my failures/sins seem unforgivable and malicious, and I feel like God is looking at me with disappointment that I’m not more successful spiritually. I know that He also looks at us with love, as that is His essence, but I find it hard to accept, even though I believe it 100%.

Looking forward to seeing more responses on here. I’m interested in some other opinions on this.

Kinda The way Spock used to raise one eyebrow and stare with a straight face…🙂

Secretly, he is smiling on the inside!

I like this one but I also see God looking at me and shaking his head. Maybe an eye roll here and there. I do try but I’m sure it never is enough.

I have been reading the Diary of St. Faustina and have identified with her a few times already, and I’m not a quarter of the way through the book.

God probably sees me as broken, fragile, pathetic, while also trying to be as prayerful and charitable as possible.

God looks at you with the love a mother has for her baby, only better.

Oh, much better. Much much better. Unspeakably so. No one can compare. God loves us so much that He gave His only Mother for us, to take for our own. That’s how much God loves us.

I sadly can’t picture God being proud of me for anything
Especially now
Maybe when I was younger I could picture him thinking I was good
I know he loves me but I can’t see how I don’t even like me most of the time I’m my own worst enemy

I struggle with this
I have done good things but I feel like my bad extremely outweighs my good

I would to think God thinks of me as his great child who will help the world but right now I can’t seem how anyone could think I’m good knowing the real me

I hope I can change it around

That quote does very much reinforce the feeling
