How do you use Laudate?

Hi everyone,

In both app stores there is a wonderful Catholic App called Laudate. Many of you are familiar with this free app. For the benefit of those who have not heard or might want to know more about it, please share how you use this invaluable app.

I have had it for at least three years I believe. I use the following features:

Daily Bible readings
Bookmarked prayers
Liturgy of the Hours *
Saint of the day

The Liturgy of the Hours is an incredible feature by itself. If you were to by the books to keep up with this as it is prescribed, it would cost a few hundred dollars.

Please prayfully consider downloading and using this spiritually enhancing app, and if you are a current user of it, once again, please share how you use this app, your favorite features, and how it has enriched your spiritual life for the benefit of those it could help.

I usually just use it for the rosary, but in some ways I am technologically incompetent. So I look forward to hear how others use it.
 
Does the LOTH have the readings in the app, or do you have to get those someplace else?

I usually get the daily reading off USCCB website, the Saint of the Day and the Collect off Catholicculture.org, and the rosary and chaplet’s I say I’ve mostly memorized, so my main use for this would be trying to get the entire LOTH easy and in one spot.

It does have the readings. For the daily Bible readings, it takes you to the USCCB from inside the app.

I might give it a try then. I’d like to get the LoTH books eventually, but realistically I have too many books and I end up doing most devotional things on my phone. I can read the Douay Rheims, the Enchiridion of Indulgences, the Catechism all right on my phone, so while I have books of all of them, the books barely get opened, while the phone gets used for them just about daily.

Same here. The phone is small, saves time, and is with us every moment of the day.
 
I like it for praying the Rosary, I think the Confession check list (both for adults and children) is very helpful, and we have used the search for prayers by occasion frequently.

I came to Catholicism via RCIA so there are many things that I find a challenge to remember or don’t know how to do effectively/correctly and for that the app is very helpful. I also want to make sure I show my children the right way so, like with the Rosary, I’d sooner load the app and do that with them then try and wing it and make a mistake. 😉
 
Anybody know why it needs access to Photos/media/files and device ID and call info? Seems unnecessary to me.
 
If you read the description in the app store it explains: Check phone state is enabled to interrupt playing on internal podcast player so you can answer the phone without the podcast playing. It accesses your documents area to save and import files for the My Prayers section.
 
I love Laudate.

I read it for the daily calendar of Saints, daily readings, all sorts of stuff.

Laudate is an absolute must have for Catholic smart phone owners in the English speaking world.
 
I use the Rosary feature when praying the Seven Sorrows Rosary. Laudate won’t let you skip which is helpful unless you try to do some of it independently to save time, then it can be aggravating. If you just go with the whole thing using the app, it actually works out just fine. Hope that makes sense.

It may try to save certain files locally to save loading time. It also has to go on the web to check for updates, and for the LOTH.
 
I just checked out the LoTH section on Laudate and first thing popping up on the page it took me to was an ad for the paid Universalis app.

Is there anybody who has used both Laudate and Universalis and can say whether one is better for LoTH? I see Universalis does not require Web Access which is helpful if that doesn’t mean the app itself is huge.

If the space on my phone is reliable Universalis is smaller. It is 24.1 MB and Laudate is 40.1 MB.
 
I use Laudate only rarely, to look up Mass readings when I don’t have a computer handy.
 
it would be nice if the prayers also had audio so you could listen to them say while driving.

i like the daily prayer, daily bible verse, chaplets and the ability to bookmark.
 
I love all the various chaplet devotions.
I use the bibles
