How do you venerate an image. Like the image of the Divine Mercy for example.
It’s about the person the image represents. Jesus himself gave us this image to us, that’s awesome because God himself has connected great promises to thos who venerate Jesus before the image of himself and that’s totally beautiful!
That’s what I love about our Church, we worship God with all of our senses! The gnostics and the arians were always trying to seperate the senses, spirtual good flesh and blood sinful and so on. Jesus forsaw this and that’s why he came to earth with a real body of flesh and blood, a real man, FULLY man and FULLY God born of a real flesh and blood person in Mary and this knowledge protected the tru church of Jesus the Holy Catholic church and from being consumed by hersies that were running rampant.
Look at how many protestant churches scoff at icons, images, paintings of Jesus, Calvin had all the great icons, paintings and any images destroyed and this spirit still runs rampant. But like it or not Jesus has appeared to many holy saints of God including the origanal disciples and apostles. He has a face, he has hands, he has a body, he has holes in his hands and feet and these images like Guadalupe are beautiful reminders to us of the spiritual realities always around us. I really do not think there are many folks who would kneeel before this image who aren’t crazy in love with Jesus, we desperately long to be with Him, to be close to Him and the Divine Mercy image is another way he’s given us to get close to Him, to be enveloped in His mercy.
