How do you wives respect your husbands?

I personally think that your spouse has to be your best friend…but not your only friend.

My husband and I work together so we are together 24/7. How does that work for us? Mutual respect and a great sense of humor! It helps to remember who they are and encouraging them to develop that…try to be intrested in their hobbies but leave them time for themselves to enjoy it. Expect 100%, but be satified with 90%…pick your battles and do not sweat the small stuff!

Also, remember it’s hard living with a saint…only kidding!!

my quick thoughts …

I try very very hard not to talk badly about him …

I trust his decisions …

When I ask him to do me a favor, I don’t check up on him, or nag. In other words, if he says he will do it, I take him at his word.

**What if your husband consistently did not keep his word (whether intentionally, being forgetful, getting distracted or whatever)?

The way wives should respect their husbands and husbands love their wives is easy if both partners understand the concept and try to live up to it. But what is one to do if the other spouse doesn’t?**

Though Feanaro’s wife is right, i’ll answer anyway, because it’s a pleasure to consider this.

I have immense respect for my husband. He’s the most generous person I know. He works his behind off and every penny of his pay and every minute of his free time is giiven to us, his family. He’s also honest, moral, loving, and funny as all get. He loves God. He loves me. There are so many of his qualities I’ve yet to attain.

That’s why it’s easy for me to show respect.

How do I show respect?
**I never sell him out. Not to my friends, not to our kids, not to my mother or sisters. Especially to our kids. If I have to enforce something coming from their dad, I always make it clear that I agree with dad’s standards a hundred percent. if i disagree, we discuss it in private. my kids know we’re a united entity.

**I listen when he has stuff on his mind.

**I pay attention to the things he likes and the things that bug him. I try to provide the first and eliminate the second. Simple as: when he comes home from afternoon shift in the middle of the night, he likes to be able to find a clean towel, so I put one out. (If I forget, he never mentions it, but if I remember, he thanks me.) He dislikes when our kids talk with food in their mouths. So even when he’s away from family meals, I instruct them.

** I pray for him.

** I make sure to thank him at least once a day and i’m very specific about my gratitude. I thank him for working so hard. I thank him for playing with the baby during homeschool lessons. I thank him for fixing our cars. etc.

** I invite our kids to show little acts of gratitude, too.

** BIG one: I tell his parents what a wonderful husband and dad he is. They worry over evertything and forget to express their approval of him. I tell them, instead. (This is also respectful to my inlaws. They did a good job raising him.)

Feanaro’s Wife was more right than I knew. There’s too much to say about this. But it was a pleasure saying what I did. I could write tripple as much about the lovely things my husband does to show respect and appreciation for me. Some other time.
Wow, this was so lovely, some great ideas to try and follow. I am sure your husband cherishes you.

I show my DH a lot of love and affection, as well as gratitude when he does something around the house or for my car…
I give to my husband my intimate self…
I listen when he is upset about something without judging or offering solutions, just letting him get things off his chest…
I do special things for him (cook his favorite meal, etc.)…
I tell him how proud of his work I am, and how good a provider he is…
I pray for him.👍

Here’s a husband’s two cents.

When I say “respect” I really mean a wife appreciating that I’m trying to steer the whole boat. . . it’s not just a idiosyncratic, personal whim.

So it’s appreciating that. Many times when I make a big or small decision, it’s not one I personally desire; it’s one that has to be done for the overall success of the thing.

It’s okay to question the captain of a ship. But you have to do it when he’s not wrapped up, engrossed in steering the thing. And of course, excessive questioning can be taken to be demeaning or personally insulting.

I think a wife can remind her husband about things without nagging. It truly has to be done in the right way. Even if he may ask you to remind him of things, some days it seems best not to, on account of his mood that day. I think if you are loving in what you are doing/saying at all times, mindful of how your words may affect him and your marriage, then he will usually sense this. But this requires not saying anything if that seems best, and not indulging in whining or digs about whatever it is that he isn’t doing. It also requires not getting in a huff and refusing to help with reminders because he got sharp with you one day. For example, if you realize that he is truly forgetting to file the taxes, and it is April 14, then I suggest you remind him or do it yourself. Don’t say, oh, well, he doesn’t want my help, so I’ll just sit here and watch him burn, haha (sucker, he deserves his fate…)!

I don’t know. With me there are (at least) two ways of doing things. One is a resentful or condescending “you are failing me” type way. The other is a supporting way, that is centered in the right place (not me, but love, Christ, however you put that).

If a wife has a husband that truly is not participating in marriage at all, well, that requires special advice.

Don’t know … 🤷

My husband and I are on the same page with our relationship, which is refreshing. With my first marriage, we had totally different ideas about what marriage should be

My husband has ADD, so it’s been hard for me to let go, and not micro manage him. Looking back, I realize that he gets a lot more accomplished if I just step back, and get out of his way. He may not get it done on MY timeline, or the way I would do it, but it gets done.
