Usually, the folks who do these things don’t see much difference between Catholics and Lutherans. They are completely focused on their own beliefs and their own understanding of what it means to “be saved.” As a Lutheran, I have been told “unless you can tell the exact moment that you accepted Jesus as your personal savior, you haven’t been saved.” When that happens, I use the answer suggested above – “I was saved two thousand years ago on a hill outside Jerusalem.”

My Mom gets out the Urantia Book and gets very similar results. 😛
 
=Karen1960-Last evening I was able to distract an intervention “to save me from the bonds of the RCC”, quite frankly I was shocked that this was even happening, I’ve heard about these, but this time it was me in the center. I was being bombarded with questions and for every answer, they had theirs, as if they knew what I would say.

Two co-workers, kindly and gently with tears in their eyes, tried to convince me that by staying in the RCC, I can not be saved. Needless to say, I was and still am a bit tongue tied. Luckly something came up at work and we had to attend to that, then our shift was over, and I just said a fast goodbye, clocked out and left. But I work with these 2 next week again.

Seriously, how does one handle this? I am new to the South (around 3 years) and just began back out into the work force this past Spring. I am the only Catholic. I don’t want to allienate people but I refuse to deny The Catholic Church. This never happened to me up North.

If they were nasty, it would have been easier, but what they said was done so kindly that I was dumbfounded. Help please.

The advise I share depends on what you wish to accomplish.

If you chose not to enter into debate with them is one choice, and the other, if you feel qualified, is to enter into debate.

Let’s say you just don’t wish to be hammered.

When the opportunity comes [and they will make sure it does] smile and tell them that “I am Saved and I am still in the process of being Saved.” I really want to be freinds, but I am not interested in having my Catholic beliefs called into question. I would greatly appreciate it if we could discuss other topics. Smile, and say, thanks for understanding.

If on the other hand, you don’t object to explaining who and what we are, and feel qualified to do so, tell them you’d be happy to discuss “my Catholic Faith” with you providing we use the entire Catholuic Bible as the foundation.

The Catholic Bible was the Only Bible for more than 1000 years, and the entire NT was written by men, known today to be Catholic.

They will likely say something about thje term '“Catholic” not being in the bible. Agree with them. The reason for this is that the Bible was completely written by the end of the the First Century, and the term Catholic was not used until about125 by Saint Ignatious. The term Catholic means “Universal.”

We can know that the bible is and was a Catholic Book because there were no other christian religions until about 1600. The Eastern Catholic Church seperated from Rome about the year 1000. But it too remains part of the Catholic Church.

If they want to use any other bible, gently inform them you can only talk from truth, and as 2 Tim. 3:16 say’s "

[16] All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, [17] that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work"

If we can’t agree on this I don’t think we can have a truthful debate. But thanks for asking.

Not quite sure if i understand this right but why would you turn someone away who is talking to you about salvation. If you believe that you are saved simply tell them that. You have to remember that our churches, tradition or anything else can’t save us. Only if we accept Christ to be our Lord and Saviour will be saved. If they tried to get you into their church just tell them that your already belong to one.
