What are the 144 in heaven? Need a detailed explanstion for someone at work
I think the question was “how does a catholic interpret the 144,000…”The 144 thousand are 12000 thousand witnesses from each of the 12 tribes of Isreal that will witness for Jesus Christ in the end times. They will be sealed by the Holy Spirit so that the anti-christ can not touch or harm them
Wow. Can you tell me where I can read more about what you had to say? That is one “theory” I have never heard, and I would love to read more about it. Thanks.Grace & Peace!
Odell, I’m not expert in such things, but it seems to me that the key to the interpretation of the figure is in the significance of the number 12 as 144 is the square of 12.
And 12, as you know, is a significant number–12 apostles, 12 tribes of Israel. So the 144,000 does not represent a literal numeration of the number of the saved, but (given the magnitude of the number as well), represents the complete host of the saved by numerically emphasizing it’s dual covenantal heritage (the Old represented by the tribes and the New by the apostles).
Hope this helps.
Under the Mercy,

Odell, I got this from a Bible course given by a priest in our diocese, Fr Yvon LeBlanc. He himself studied it with a Belgian priest from the Lumen Vitae school (Belgium), Fr. Jean Radermakers, and I found it very interesting. I will try to tell it from memory. What are the 144 in heaven? Need a detailed explanstion for someone at work
