Assuming that this atheist doesn’t have lots of Catholic family members; how do they go from no faith to faith?

Is this someone specific (sounds like it) or just in general.

Answers are many, a personal experience of the divine, never committed to atheism, just the way he was raised, intense study of the philosophical reasons for God, a really good apologist…there are many paths to religion in general and many paths away from religion.

Have you just asked?

Conversion happens through the prayers of the faithful in hidden ways, i.e. a person praying in a village in Myanmar imparts graces to a person living on the other side of the world to go to a certain event, read a certain book, etc., which leads to a chain of other graces that eventually lead to a formal conversion.

This is why St Therese of Liseaux is one of the patron saints of missionaries even though she was an isolated Carmelite.

And of course the same goes for us. Our lives have been affected by strangers in all sorts of ways. In the hereafter we will get to meet them; our secret benefactors.

Your question is a bit ambiguous. Are you asking how to take someone who is an atheist and convert them to Catholicism? There’s no “one size fits all” for that, as it depends considerably on why they became an atheist to begin with. Or are you asking about how a former atheist can become Catholic? (obviously, if someone wants to become Catholic, they are no longer an atheist) In that case it’s the same as anyone else, go through RCIA.

Depends on the person.
If the person in question talks a lot about morality it would be learning about the end of our moral actions, the Trinity, that would be of great help. I mean, why care about morality if there is no God?! Many atheist care about morality but don’t understand that if there is no God then caring about morality is useless.

Please tell us more about the person you wantes to help or the kind of person as I am not sure ypu had a real person in mind.

Faith is gift from God. Therefore

✓ One asks God for the gift. if they don’t it
✓ And As Peter taught HERE

So, after one has faith, don’t sit on it

one needs to add in ever increase amounts, without stopping , these 7 conditions,

virtue, knowledge, self-control, steadfastness, godliness, brotherly affection, love.

Because

As Peter warns, whoever lacks these things is blind and shortsighted and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins…and they will fall.

Therefore,

This is a personal issue for each and every person, to take seriously in order for faith to be operational
