Well, besides the obvious.
The women followers of Jesus went to his tomb to annoint him. I want to know if annointing the dead has any graces associated with it as annointing of the sick does. What is anointing of the Dead? Is it anointing of the sick, only to a recently deceased person? Or is it something else?
Thanks. We were posting at the same time a minute ago so I didn’t see your response.Hi Mark,
Sacraments are not administered to the dead. Sometimes the anointing of the sick is administered, conditionally, to a person whose death is not certain.

I believe that the anointing of the dead Christ was a traditional burial custom at the time. The women followers of Jesus went to his tomb to annoint him. I want to know if annointing the dead has any graces associated with it as annointing of the sick does.
As Lizaanne has said, the anointing for Jesus was a Jewish custom. SinceJewish traditions didn’t bestow Grace, I would say that this is much different from the anointing of the Sick, which is meant to bestow forgiveness and maybe even healing Graces. The women followers of Jesus went to his tomb to annoint him.
