How does free will work? Supposedly it’s a gift from God but He gives it to us then we can’t use it. I mean He says you have free will and can do anything you want as long as it’s what I want. If you don’t do what I want you’ll be sorry. That doesn’t sound like much of a choice.

Actually, God gives us free will that we WILL use it. He gives us free will to do anything, including what He doesn’t want. This is the God who took on a human nature and allowed people whom He created from nothing to torture Him and put Him to death–to show us the depth of his love for us. We are free to love or hate. He doesn’t force us or program us to walk in lock-step with Him. He created us to love; but love is a choice—the ultimate choice.

That there are consequences for our choices does not mean that we are not free.
