I am Catholic baptised but do not really believe and don’t attend Church etc.
Ive noticed some people state that God brings peace to their life…how does this happen and is it an actual feeling etc?
Even when I have attended the Church in the past I never felt peace and just felt like I was going through the motions (Ie:repeating what was supposed to be said, singing “on cue” etc)
Ive never had a sense of God nor was my singing (in worship songs) a genuine feeling of praise but just following what others did…

For me it was when I realized that I don’t control squat. I didn’t give myself the autoimmune diseases, God saw fit I needed them somehow. It won’t go for some folks but I feel that to everything there is a reason and a purpose. God’s thoughts aren’t our thoughts so why do I try?

I just try to get out of the way and trust in God, that whatever is going on he’ll see me through it. He’s in control, not me.

Now of course I do stupid decisions because I have free will…and that’s God letting me learn from sticking the fork into the outlet again and again lol .

Hi Elena321 🙂

May I ask whether you have read the Gospels before (Matthew, Mark, Luke & John)? If not, I would personally recommend just picking up a Bible or New Testament book and reading through the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John (They are only short).

If you don’t have a Bible or New Testament book, you can read them online here - biblegateway.com/passage/?search=matthew+1&version=RSV

(Just keep clicking through from ‘Matthew’ until you get to ‘John’ and then feel free to go further onto Acts if you wish to read more).

I hope this has helped

God Bless You

Thank you for reading

The Lord grants us His Peace, that surpasses all understanding, when we pray daily, and surrender our lives to Him more and more.

The Lord is patient.

Based on the information you provided, it seems you are lack of relationship with God. You do not attend Church to worship him, you do not pray, you do not do anything to cultivate your relationship with God. I wonder how would you expect receiving peace from God? God wants to give you His peace, but you are not able to receive it due to lack of attention.

The peace from the Lord is not a feeling. You won’t know it unless you experience it. You won’t experience it unless you “remain” in the Lord. You won’t remain in the Lord unless you worship Him in the Church, read the Bible, discipline yourself with a prayer life, and earnestly seek God with your heart.

Peace has to be worked for no matter where you are in your journey. If God gave peace to everyone despite their actions there would be world peace.

Anyway, for me peace is like a confidence that comes from knowing deeper truths that can be learned by studying scripture, getting out of my comfort zone in order to do what I know l should, and fasting and prayer. It’s a lot of work. It’s similar to marriage.

For me, the work I put into getting to know God has led me to want to participate at mass

By answering the deepest needs of our heart: Why are we here? Why is there suffering? Where do we go after we die? Why is my heart not satisfied after obtaining what I thought would satisfy it?

“You move us to delight in praising You; for You have formed us for Yourself, and our hearts are restless till they find rest in You.” - St. Augustine, The Confessions (Book I)

“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” -Jn 8:32 👍

One personal example I can share with you. A long time ago, I was dating a man who did evil things. We had gotten into an argument, and I stormed off to church. During the Holy Mass I did not have peace. I went to the Adoration Chapel after Mass and wanted to personally have a conversation with God to have this man punished to God’s full justice … With a puckered face I opened Psalms (because it has lots of curses on those who do wrong) and I got one short blurb about vengeance, followed by much more repair, forgiveness, and peace. I had Gods peace In my soul, mind, and body.

Turns out I would need this peace. This guy was standing at my front door the whole time I was at church and started pushing me around and yelling, did you ask God to strike me down? After he calmed down, I said, “peace be with you. Yes, I took my anger to God and he transformed it to mercy and peace” … Well, this guy was completly dumfounded. I would imagine terrible things would have happened that day if God did not bestow the grace of peace onto me. Prais be God forever.
