How does God ever expect us to get to heaven when there is so much deceptive evil lurking?

I don’t understand why we were put on this earth with all the temptations of life to distract us and then be expected to live a perfect life in order to get into heaven. Obviously it wasn’t my decision to be born and know it was God that wanted me here. I love and adore the Lord and pray daily and try to live a right life, but sometimes I wonder how it is possible to ever get to heaven living in this world. I don’t want to disrespect the Lord by saying this but I feel how can God give us this beautiful life and have things dangled in front of us like material items, sex, gossip, tv shows, just life in general and not expect us to want some of those things and not give into them. It is right in front of us like candy but it is wrong to have it. If the slightest sin is committed and we die without going to confession we are damned to hell, right? I love Jesus and can’t wait to see Him face to face in heaven. Why is life so hard and one slip up can send us straight to hell even if we give our selves to God? I understand that the devil has put the sinful things in our world and it is secretly lurking everywhere but why is passing the test of life so hard in which our souls could be jeopardized when we didn’t even ask to be here? Please help me with this and don’t condemn me for asking.

Take a deep breath, it is not so bad as you think.

First of all, it is NOT TRUE that the “slightest sin” unconfessed can lead us to Hell. It is only mortal sins that can lead to damnation. Mortal sins must be 1) grave matter (serious stuff) 2) known to be sinful and 3) committed intentionally. Venial sins (lesser seriousness) or committed out of ignorance or without intent are forgiven through the Eucharist, and do not lead to damnation, only additional time in purgatory.

Second, God knew all about the myriad temptations, “the just man sins seven times a day”, that is why he gave us the Sacraments. We have Baptism, the Eucharist and Confession to forgive our sins and help us resist sin. We can always be forgiven, that is the beauty of the Sacraments.

So, we don’t need to live a perfect life, we just need to repent when we fall and seek absolution. Many, many people who led wicked have been saved by late, or even deathbed conversions. The power of God’s Mercy is much greater that out tendency to sin.

As long as you do your best, and repent and seek confession when you fall, and persevere to the end, you will achieve salvation.

God Bless

The sacraments.

Remember that God doesn’t produce TV shows, popular magazines, or engage in silly gossip! He probably doesn’t even watch Oprah.

The Apostles even asked Jesus a question similar to yours, and his answer was that with man, it is impossible, but with God, all things are possible.

So we just try to pay less attention to the secular culture and more attention to God.

And prayer is the way to spend time with God.

A wise Redemptorist priest once told me, “He who prays will be saved; he who does not pray will be lost.”
