How does one attain forgiveness from Allah in Quran?

How does one get forgiven in Islam? Is it a complete forgiveness, where Allah does not remember that sin anymore?

One of the problems that Muslims face in this forum is that non-Muslims are usually not satisfied with the answers that Muslims provide in response to their questions.

And so, perhaps it is better to answer the question of forgiveness in Islam as it specifically relates to non-Muslims.

When someone converts to Islam, God forgives all of his previous sins and evil deeds. A man called Amr came to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and said, “Give me your right hand so that I may give you my pledge of loyalty”. The Prophet (pbuh) stretched out his right hand. Amr withdrew his hand. The Prophet (pbuh) said: {What has happened to you, O Amr?} He replied, “I intend to lay down a condition”. The Prophet (pbuh) asked: {What condition do you intend to put forward?} Amr said, “That God forgive my sins”. The Prophet (pbuh) said: {Didn’t you know that converting to Islam erases all previous sins?}. … (Narrated in Saheeh Muslim, #121, and Mosnad Ahmad, #17357)

After converting to Islam, the person will be rewarded for his or her good and bad deeds according to the following saying of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) : {Your Lord, Who is blessed and exalted, is most merciful. If someone intends to do a good deed but does not do it, a good deed will be recorded for him. And if he does do it, (a reward of) ten to seven hundred or many more times (the reward of the good deed), will be recorded for him. And if someone intends to do a bad deed but does not do it, a good deed will be recorded for him. And if he does do it, a bad deed will be recorded against him or God will wipe it out}. … (Narrated in Mosnad Ahmad, #2515, and Saheeh Muslim, #131)

you know there’s another faith which teaches no sin is too great to be forgiven, it’s called Christianity. St. Paul, for instance was at the very least an accomplice to murder, if not an murderer him self. Yet Christ came to him, and he became the faiths greatest asset. Assuming one makes a perfect act of contrition, or is able to seek true repentance, they will be forgiven and saved.

So you can’t knock the muslims on that point.

I think there is some mistake, Isnt it true that Paul was a non believer of Christ and His followers and hence used to do what he did? Did he do any such activity after he found Jesus?

God the Exalted has said: ‘O child of Adam, I shall go on forgiving you so long as you pray to Me and seek My forgiveness. O child of Adam, I do not mind even if your sins pile up to the sky; if you beg pardon of Me, I would forgive you. O child Adam, if you come to me with all the world’s sins and meet Me, not associating anything with Me, I would come to you with all the world’s forgiveness.

God forgive for the sinners if they show sincere repentance for thier sins before they die , will the sucide bomber find time to repent before his death !

it will be according to his sincereness , and according to how far his sins influenced the others , such as rape , killing , robbing , beating someone , oppressed someone

God is just , and even if his servant repented and God accepted his repentance , it dosn’t mean that he almighty will ignore those innocents people , they still have rights and God will not neglect it unless the sinner allready seek their forgivness in his life .

In case there is person who did sins and looking for forgiveness:
He should follow these steps:

1. He should correct as much as possible what he did before especially if he harmed any human:
   For example: if he is killer he should look for forgiveness from the family. If he stole something, he should return it…………etc
2. He should declare that he would never do this sin again.
3. He should do as much as possible good things: praying, fasting, helping poor people, giving money to charitable association………(in the past the best thing was to buy slave and to give him his freedom)
4. Even if the person followed the last procedure, he will never know if Allah forgave him or not. ( he will know in the judgment day)

so , for serious crimes , it’s possible to be forgiven but not so easy as the simple sins , but he should work hard because the mercy of ALLAH larger than all human sins

Muslims are encouraged not to lose hope in God’s mercy. No matter how bad the crime. However, the person has to be sincere in seeking forgiveness and atoning for their past mistakes. The person has to live a reformed life and remain reformed till the end of his life. Then he has earned God’s forgiveness.

Qur’an 39:53 “Say: ‘O My servants who have transgressed against your own souls: do not despair of God’s mercy, for God forgives all sins. It is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.’”

In principle we believe God is Just, if the person earned forgiveness but he did some terrible things to other people before that, God will forgive him on the day of judgment and compensate the people he wronged.
