How does one become a Deacon?

I am a married man of 64 years of age and have been happily married for 44 years. Our children are all married and I would like to dedicate the rest of my life to the Lord. My wife and I have discussed it and she is behind me 100%. Can you give me some direction as to how to take the first step in becoming a deacon? Any information will be greatly appreicated.
