How does one convince others about the immorality of pornography?

Outside of actually living the chaste lifestyle, how could one go about effectively spreading the message of pure love? Even in the high school seminary, adolescents reject church teaching on pornography, masturbation, adultery, etc.

How could one convince them that they could live a much fuller life if they were to abandon such actions (especially if they’ve already heard the “it involves lust, so it’s wrong” line of thinking)?

Well, I am not sure if this addresses all of your issues, but when it comes to talking about pornography with my friends, and telling them why it is wrong, this is what I usually ask.

“You want to be a dad one day probably? Well, imagine that whenever you look at pornography online, remember that that is someone’s daughter. Now, when you have a daughter, do you want thousands of people looking at her like that?”

I don’t know if it changes anyones opinions, but it usually gets people to stop talking at most.

Andy,

I would suggest the approach that sex is the earthly representation of the relationship between Christ and the Church in Heaven, and that it is therefore sanctified … and should be done right if it is to be done at all.

Your other respondent also had an extremely good reply about “would you want your daughter to be sitting there?”

I would do this too in order to plant the seed that not only is this someone’s daughter, it is someone’s daughter whose life has taken an awful and miserable wrong turn–and that porno users are taking advantage of that misery.

I think that best way to ‘convince’ others about immorality, is to teach them that God created His children to have respect for their bodies. Our bodies were not meant for playing around…they were meant for marital sex…(when speaking of sexuality lol)

But, one who has an addiction, let’s say, to porn, probably would need time to ‘quit’ the addiction. I had a friend who converted last year to being Catholic, and he was lost at first, at where to begin. I told him…‘just pray, and ask God to guide you. Each day, spend 5-10 minutes with God, and then soon, you will want to spend more.’

Soon…he was converting! 🙂 The point is this…that, in order to teach someone God’s laws, one has to want to spend time listening to God. Teaching God’s laws to someone who is addicted to porn, is like teaching a baby to ride a bike. It just won’t work!

Teaching people about God’s love, and to take Him in daily…wil naturally breed morality. It doesn’t come easily…for we are all human, but with God at the forefront of our lives…the temptations to sin, will dissipate.

Good luck!👍

I say take it a step further. Some people are going to say that they are never going to have kids so you can add, “How would you feel if that was your mother, aunt, sister, girlfriend, or wife that people were looking at?”

I am undecided on my religious affiliation at the moment but I think this is one of those things that can be argued outside of religion. It just isn’t natural for a person to dress up or not at all and parade themselves around for others to drool over. Our natural inclination is to propagate the species. How can you propagate the species if you are gratifying yourself through pictures or self-stimulation? At the end of the day, how good does doing that stuff really make you feel?

It is like the difference between real delicious melt in your mouth chocolate versus some chemically created psuedo chocolate that you have to work at to enjoy and it only resembles the real thing. Pornography and self-stimulation are like that pseudo chocolate. It tastes good and feels good when you are eating it but nothing can take the place of that melt in your mouth real chocolate (aka real sex between two people that love each other)! Which would you rather have, the psuedo chocolate or the real thing?

Sometimes people automatically tune you out if you start throwing out religion as the only reason to do or not do something. If you appeal to logic and good sense rather than religion, you might catch a few more people than if you go around preaching. When somebody from any religion starts “preaching” to me, I immediately tune them out.

Well, as a female who had friends who took part in this, I would tell them how much of a turn OFF that it is for most women. I know for me personally, even before I knew and understood the Catholic Church’s teaching about pornography and masturbation, I was disgusted at the fact that people actually thought that these were okay things to participate in. I would let my guy friends know that it was one of their ugly qualities.

Also, in my former, extremely sinful life, I dated a guy who had to watch porn and drink a couple of beers before he’d even be affectionate. Talk about a self esteem blow. Now I have no problems telling men (and women) I know who think pornography is okay about that one guy and how his addiction made me feel like less than nothing (and at times tears come out when I relate this story).

Besides all of these excellent responses I would add the terrible consequences to the women involved with internet pornography.

You can do some research and find that most women that are in
those pictures are :

Abused in some way.
They may be under slavery.
International women who are held against their will.
Prostitutes.
Young Runaways
In other desperate situations

When the pictures are out on the internet you really don’t know who they are or what their situation is…

But, you can be sure that they are not in a good situation if they resort to having their picture put out online. - If they even know about it.

How can anyone justify letting money go to support the harming of women or men in this way ?

– Objection : But, looking at pictures online doesn’t cost money ?

Wrong : Websites pay for advertisements by way of “click counts” If your computer visited the web site you just confirmed money to be spent to support the industry !

Every time you cruise the internet for “dirty pictures” every click is a "vote YES I support sexual exploitation!"

Even if someone goes to a “clean” site where there are legitmate models – it still encourages the cheap sites to get their models cheaper - or for free.

Pornography is a slipperly slope where the viewer will eventually not even care who the picture model is or where she came from.

- That’s my addition to the arguement.

In summary, those who make porn movies are not happy people. Along with their lifestyles comes drug abuse, loose sexual behavior, STDs, AIDS, HIV+, and for too many death by murder, drug overdose and suicide.
AIDS spreading in porn industry despite testing
L.A. health officials report four new cases of HIV among adult film actors
Updated: 7:43 p.m. ET Sept 22, 2005
NEW YORK - Investigators at the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services recently became aware of four cases of HIV infection related to work in the adult film industry. The infections occurred despite a widely adopted voluntary program of HIV and STD testing in the industry.
As reported in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, the first identified case was a 40-year-old man who tested HIV-negative on February 12 and March 17, 2004, but tested positive on April 9.
Dr. H. Rotblatt, with the Los Angeles Department of Public Health, and colleagues report that, on April 20, the LA County Department of Health Services started an investigation to identify HIV transmission from this case.
During the time between his two negative tests, the patient had engaged in unprotected sex while producing a film in Brazil. After returning to California he engaged in unprotected sex with 13 female partners, three of whom tested HIV-positive in April and May after negative tests results were obtained one month previously.
HIV strains obtained from the four patients and sequenced by the CDC showed that they were all identical, supporting the conclusion that the male patient was the source of the HIV infection.
In September, the California Department of industrial Relations, Division of Occupational Safety and Health, cited employers of the workers for failing to comply with the state’s bloodborne disease standard, failing to report a serious work-related illness, and failing to prepare and follow a written occupational injury and illness prevention program.
MMWR editors comment that in Los Angeles County there are approximately 200 production companies employing 1200 workers who engage in direct work-related sexual contact, which is often prolonged and performed without condom use.
“In addition to the testing program being inadequate as the sole source of protection from HIV transmission, the costs of testing are typically borne by the workers themselves,” the authors note. “The cost burden of health services could cause some workers to reduce the range and frequency of HIV and STD screening or to avoid or delay pursuing vaccination for hepatitis B virus.”
They conclude that “workers in this industry need to be made aware of the risks associated with participation in various acts, to be able to participate in decision-making about their health and safety at work, and to benefit from prevention practices.”

Have someone who is an ex-porn “performer” who is now a christian speak to them. And, ask them to explain to her/him why they think it is ok to view porn.
Ex-porn star speaks of transformation
Sheri Baker-Rickman, Staff Writer September 07, 2006
Alcohol, drugs, and sex for money were regular parts of Shelley Lubben’s life during the 1990s until, she says, Jesus helped her transform.
Lubben spoke about her life as porn star “Roxy” during services at First Family Church, 7700 W. 143rd St., Overland Park, Sept. 2-3.
“Don’t tell me Jesus doesn’t hang out with drug addicts,” Lubben said. “I had to drink a big bottle of vodka every day just so the holy spirit would shut up.”
Senior Pastor Jerry Johnston said pornography should be addressed because many Christian men struggle with the issue daily.
Born into a marginally Christian family with a distant father, Lubben said she became “the queen of rebellion” as a teen - smoking, drinking and partying late. Lubben’s father waited until she reached 18, then told her to leave.
Without food or a place to live, Lubben sat on a street corner crying until a “nice older man” gave her a hug.
Bad relationships with men, specifically their fathers, help propel women into the sex industry, Lubben said.
“It felt so good to have a man’s arms around me,” she said. “He said he wanted to help me. He was real smooth. He said a man wanted to make love to me for $35.”
Hunger and a feeling of worthlessness led Lubben to accept the offer, which led to prostituting regularly. Prostitution resulted in three pregnancies - two miscarriages and one live birth. Lubben’s daughter, Tiffany, is now 18.
Prostitution also led to acting in adult films and drug and alcohol addictions. Lubben said adult films give an “illusion” of pleasure.
“Men think (female porn stars) enjoy sex; we don’t,” Lubben said. “I wish they would show what really happens - girls throwing up in the bathrooms. Look at the girls’ faces, we are in pain. Most become lesbians because they hate men.”
Acts women are expected to perform are usually not revealed until a woman arrives on the set, Lubben said. If a woman refuses to perform, she will not be paid.
Lubben said working conditions are “filthy” because adult movie sets are covered in body fluids - including blood from injured women - and rarely cleaned.
“You find the same fluids on these sets that you find in an E.R.,” she said.
Holidays are lonely, Lubben said, because many women have no family ties.
“Most porn stars have problems with sex abuse and most don’t have a place to go for holidays, so we have holidays together,” Lubben said. “For Thanksgiving we get together and we are thankful to not have HIV or an STD.”
In recent years, adult film performers have tested positive for HIV/AIDS, even though the industry requires regular testing for the disease. Lubben said performers fear getting diseases because film makers refuse to require condom use.
“I would pray every day, ‘God, get me out,’” she said.
God answered that prayer, Lubben said, when she met Garrett Lubben, a preacher’s son and meth addict, in a bar. Together, the couple overcame addiction problems, married and had two daughters.
Lubben said God transformed her from “Roxy” and gave her a ministry to help others out of the porn industry and help those addicted to porn.
Johnston said all adult films should be avoided. People using soft porn eventually will view hard porn and some will find themselves involved in “perversion,” he said.
Lubben said wives should not take it personally if a husband has problems with porn. She advised women to pray for God to heal the marriage and seek counseling.
Johnston said the Internet, pay channels like HBO, and many hotel chains make porn easily available. He urged people battling porn addiction to seek help through the church’s Comfort Circles support groups.

Why not get someone like Marion Elissalde to take a picture of an very overweight grandma and throught photo editing, air brushing turn her into a super model for the purpose of demonstrating that what one sees in a magazine, video is not really what the person looks like in real life. I once changed a tire for Kathy Ireland, and did not realize it was her, until my wife said something to me.
‘Creative freak’ also does plumbing
Photographer totally knows about airbrushing, web designing and do-it-yourself jobs
Marion Elissalde is a graphic artist whose day job sometimes has her airbrushing wrinkles off models’ faces. She fancies herself a “creative freak” and says if she were to be a guest on Oprah, the subject of the show would be “Learning to properly channel your creativity.”
