How does one counter a Protestant attacking the Church?

How does one counter a Protestant (one of the many who claim to be “non-denom” and tells us “if you are STILL with the Catholic Church” as if it was a bad thing, quoting this verse to slam the Church? I know they’re taking it out of context but what’s a good way to tell them that?

Luke 11:27-28 NIV - As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.” [28] He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”

Another guy said: "I got thrown out of the confessional when I was around 11 years old because I dare asked the priest (Father Mulligan)…why I couldn’t pray directly to Jesus and confess my sins to him?..
