How did you come to find your patron saint, and how can I? I’m a former Satanist (God forgive me) so I feel a symbolic parallel to St. Longinus, however i’m not sure what process, if any, you guys went through to feel secure in your decision.

For myself, I don’t have a single patron saint, but many friends in heaven and sources of inspiration. There’s my baptismal saint, the patron saint for my profession, and a number of people who inspire me in various ways. I look to all of then for their prayers, help, guidance, and as role models.

Hi, you can choose by ,which day you"er born like for eg Saint of the Day .can be your patron Saint or else ,the day you where Baptized that particular day ,and also your confirmation day ,your can choose ,one particular Saint, you can also have your favorite saint at at least 3 Saints usually the names are kept accordingly. The Saints will prayer for us till we reach Heaven safely

What is a patron saint?
Patron saints are chosen as special protectors or guardians over areas of life. These areas can include occupations, illnesses, churches, countries, causes – anything that is important to us. The earliest records show that people and churches were named after apostles and martyrs as early as the fourth century. Recently, the popes have named patron saints but patrons can be chosen by other individuals or groups as well. Patron saints are often chosen today because an interest, talent, or event in their lives overlaps with the special area. For example, Francis of Assisi loved nature and so he is patron of ecologists. Francis de Sales was a writer and so he is patron of journalists and writers. Clare of Assisi was named patron of television because one Christmas when she was too ill to leave her bed she saw and heard Christmas Mass – even though it was taking place miles away. Angels can also be named as patron saints.A patron saint can help us when we follow the example of that saint’s life and when we ask for that saint’s intercessory prayers to God.

There are a number of Scripture passages which directly or indirectly relate to our first question:
• Hebrews 11:1-12:1 finishes “Seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [in other words, the heroes and martyrs of the faith from ages past], let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us.” Thus, the heroes and martyrs are a good example for us, and surround us like spectators at a running race — therefore, obviously, they know about us and can see our struggles from heaven.
• James 5:16-18: 'The prayer of the good man has powerful effect." In other words, the most powerful intercessors in the Church are those most advanced in holiness. And who is more advanced in holiness than a soul who is already fully sanctified and in heaven?
• Revelation 5:8; 8:3-4: “In heaven the elders and angels offer up the prayers of the saints [on earth] as incense before the throne of God.” In this passage it is important to note that the New Testament uses the word “saint” of every baptized Christian, not because we are all perfectly holy, but because we have all at least received the gift of the Holy Spirit. So this passage implies that the angels and elders (holy Christian leaders now in heaven) hear the prayers of every Christian on earth, and join their prayer now with ours.

When I was trying to choose a patron Saint, I just googled “patron saint of…” and added on the end something I was interested in, or a virtue I needed help with. For example: patron saint of teaching, patron saint of mothers, patron saint of wisdom, etc, etc.
Just research around a lot, and read up on different Saint’s lives. Find one you really, really admire or can relate to (like you have found St. Longinus!) then pray to him/her! I became interested in Saint Therese and started praying a novena to her. She sent me a beautiful rose, and that was when I knew I wanted her as my patron saint. Maybe see if there is a novena to St Longinus.
That is amazing that you have broken away from satanism and are choosing to become Catholic. All my prayers are with you, that you continue to be protected and strengthened in your faith. God bless you.

I doubted the practices of the Church and didn’t really know the meaning of the Sacraments. At the time I was 14 years old and poorly catechised. So I picked St Thomas because he doubted. I believe it was because of his intercession that obstructions to Confirmation Graces were removed.

You can have more than one special saint, so if you pick St. Longinus now and then find that you like another saint later, you’re free to have a close relationship with more than one. The only time you would need to pick just one is when you are getting confirmed and need to pick a confirmation saint.

People often have a patron saint who they were named after, or chose for confirmation, or has some other connection to their life (profession, a particular illness or difficulty, nationality etc. )

I have several saints, also some people in the process of sainthood, to whom I regularly pray. Two of them were my parents’ patron saints. My parents are passed away, so praying to their saints is one way I can feel closer to them. I also pray from time to time to my confirmation saint, a saint who has a connection to my birth name/ birthday, a saint I think was responsible for helping me become a stronger Catholic, and a saint who I “discovered” in an unexpected way.

I also feel a strong connection to a couple of people who are still at the “blessed” or “servant of God” stage in their sainthood process, so I pray for their canonizations.
