Hi,
My granddaughter is 13 and asked me the other day if I knew we were evolved from apes. I really was taken aback. I know they teach that in school now (evolution) but I find it a bit upsetting. My daughter had more anger towards the question than I did. I feel, at my age, I know who made us, who made the earth, heaven, etc. I guess that is my question. How do you explain it to a 13 year old? She goes to church so it isn’t that she doesn’t believe in God. I just felt that my daughter getting angry, when she asked about it, wouldn’t help the situation. My granddaughter was just bringing a question to the table; something she had learned at school.
Now, for me, I have a degree in Social Sciences and Darwin was a part of our studies. I agree with him, up to a point, on the strongest surviving but I don’t associate this just with mankind. I am looking at animals that have become extinct or animals that have adapted, differently, to the the climate/conditions in which they live. That being said, I firmly believe God created everything and where, I feel, evolution comes in is through time and how people change due to where they live, what they eat, etc. Does this make sense and would this be a good way of explaining evolution to my granddaughter?
Sorry for the long post but I didn’t know how to just ask the question without an explanation. 🙂
Thank you,
Kathy
