One goal in having a relationship with God is to be able to feel at peace overall, and overcome nervousness and be able to stay or become calm. When spending time with God, what can you do to work towards that goal and feel at peace with God?

Oh dear, Jessamine, at first glance it seems that your goal in having a relationship with God is in seeking His consolations rather than in seeking the God of consolations. Lack of nervousness is not a guarantee, but we can pray for it. I don’t mean to be a party-pooper here but many people seem to judge their faith in God on their feelings and get disappointed when they don’t feel like God is answering their prayers.

Mediatate on the crucifix. Whenever I feel lost or in doubt of God’s love, I meditate on the crucifix. There is not greater love or peace than what Jesus did for us on that cross.

God bless.

“He came to heal the contrite”.

The priest says this early in every Mass, and it is true.

If you are sorry for your sins, you will feel more at peace.

It wasn’t something I did.

Before, when I was an atheist, I felt like the hair on the back of my head was always on end. I used to always say things like, “Is it already Christmas?” “Time just slips away.” "I feel like the more I do, I can’t catch up.

But after I turned to God and began to make Him my focus by praying the Rosary, frequent prayer aspirations, the breviary and the devotion to the presence of God, one day, I became conscious of the fact that I no longer worried about time. Today, for me, Christmas is always a long way away.

Matt 6: 33 But seek first the kingdom [of God] and his righteousness,[c] and all these things will be given you besides. 34 Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself. Sufficient for a day is its own evil.
