How does one go about joining SSPX?

Also, I resent the absurd, demeaning and insulting statement that we have clergy who teach error everywhere. This is a complete lie. Since it attacks the clergy, I have believe its root is from the Father of all lies. I for one have a parish where error is not taught. Many others here follow good holy priest and live where their clergy do not teach error.

This sort of devisive attack on the Church is the danger of the SSPX. I will encourage the OP to reconsider based on the evidence presented by the above poster.
This is not a complete lie. I was in a parish where there was long time error.

Yes it is a lie. The statement was that error was “everywhere.” A parish, several or even a majority of parishes teaching error does not make the statement true.

Hi, do you know that SSPX are not in communion with the Church? (at least, not yet.) Which makes them schismatic… (for now… the Vatican is working on bringing them back). SSPX is sadly, disobedient to the Church 😦 (even though I think there are many good things about them otherwise.)
Do you know that the excommunications have been lifted? Please retract this slanderous statement or provide proof. The SSPX is in full communion with HMC - a lack of official canonical status does not mean that they are schismatic.

Well, it just looks like they can’t be all bad. I mean, look at all the emotion that jumps up everytime someone asks a simple question. It amazes me that there are so many people who verge on the attack mode when SSPX is mentioned.

My advise is to talk to an SSPX priest and weigh it with prayer. Make your best decision and go with it. The SSPX talks could last for years or not. Be patient. Its to be done in Gods time not ours.

You could just do what I did…About 4 years ago I just started attending the SSPX church in my area. I didn’t meet with anybody, I didn’t register with anybody…Just started going.

Looks can be deceiving, corsair. They’re all bad, every last one, right down to the core.

It wasn’t the question that drew all the “emotion”. It was several of the following posts riddled with inaccuracies…Just like in every thread that where the SSPX is falsely characterized.
It amazes me that there are so many people who verge on the attack mode when SSPX is mentioned.
Yeah, but it’s even more amazing to see who the attackers are! It amazes me that there are four or five people verging on attack mode from the OF position when the SSPX is mentioned, for every one person who decides to stick up for the SSPX. Just an observation from someone who used to be against, and argue against, the SSPX but now is in favor of them.

I totally agree with this part.

Go to the SSPX home page found here. They have the information you’ll need there is als a third order (you’ll have to give up TV to join).

Also check out the board on Fisheaters some SSPXers hang out on there.

Good luck! 👍

Should one consult with the existing parish priest first, and then seek counsel from the local SSPX priest? Or vice versa? Should it be brought up in the confessional, or an informal meeting with the existing parish priest?
Hi,

What is meant by “join”? You can only join the SSPX if you enter one of their monasteries, convents, or become one of their priests (also you can be enrolled in a third-order). If you just want to attend Holy Mass at one of their Mass centres, then just stop on by on Sunday! You will be very welcome there.

The got a 3rd Order ya know.

Look, the SSPX situation is complex, and they certainly hold some very negative positions towards all non-SSPX orders, to the point that SSPX [insert correct word here; parishioners, adherents…I’m not sure and I don’t want to offend anybody] are told in the FAQs on the SSPX website not only to never attend a Mass in the Ordinary Form, but to also avoid Extraordinary Form Masses not said by the SSPX. That’s not a healthy position for the Church.

Are you reading the same thread I am here? I would like to refer you to post 17 and ask who is attacking who.

And no, they are not all bad, but the same can be said for any group.

Newt,

I agree with the statement that the error is everywhere. Let me qualify the words “everywhere” and “error”.

First “error”. I went to a funeral Mass (in the OF) for the wife of a friend of mine at a diocesan church. After Communion, the priest and the deacon sat down and the husband came up to the pulpit and gave a short eulogy on his wife (they had been married for over 50 years) and then walked over to the piano and played “Thanks For the Memories” while another gentleman came up with a roving microphone to sing the lyrics. Afterwards, there was a great applause. I consider this an “error” in that it diverts attention away from the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Also, the tabernacle was set on a credence table to the far left of the altar with a proper sanctuary candle burning next to it to indicate the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. Before Mass, everyone who came up the side isle had to come directly in front of the tabernacle to go left or right and to the person, each turned away from the Real Presence without acknowledgment and bowed to the “table” upon which nothing was happening nor was there a crucifix. This is another example of what I would call “error” which is being taught or at least is going uncorrected by the priest. So the “error” is not always necessarily to the extent of heresy or error of dogma or of faith, but error of omission or laxity in teaching the truths.

And the “everywhere” that you have taken offense to most certainly does not mean every priest in every parish. But I believe it is a problem in practically every diocese with the exception of a few with very stalwart traditional Bishops.

Yes, with this definition, I can agree with the use of the term. However, by the same token one would have to say that the Church is preaching the gospel everywhere and the Grace of God is available everywhere. Solid, orthodox Christianity is being taught “everywhere.” After all, I am sure we will agree that* almost* every diocese has some holy and faithful priests, at the very least.

You mentioned Hitler or Stalin on here you’d probably get a lot of emotional responses too. Does that mean they weren’t all bad?

God bless the SSPX for standing up for the faith and rejecting all the new novelties Vatican II supporters wish to claim is authentic Catholicism. I thank God also for giving us the technology to see Traditional masses on the internet and to see the differences between the traditional way and the new “stuff”. We can find many examples of abuses taking place within the new mass versus the reverence of a Traditional Mass. Some of these abuses are extreme like clown masses, yet others have been subtle like altar girls and Eucharistic Ministers. The lord promised us that the church will not fall to the devil and it hasnt the fight continues and Catholics will win. I urge everyone that knows of abuses taking place to document and report them to the Bishops and to all Catholics.

The fourth commandment is to honor your father and mother. So you should always do so. Now, honoring them does not necessarily mean obeying them if they order you to sin. If my father tells me to kill someone, and I disobey, that does not mean I am dishonoring my father.
I’m curious where anonymoususer went. I’m unsubscribing from this thread since he has failed to address my answer to the question he raised.

Without question.

Find out where the nearest SSPX Chapel is, what time the Mass is, and then show up. Introduce yourself to the Priest.

Agree 100%. The SSPX is truly the True Church that Christ promised would never die. Without Archbishop Lefebvre, the gates of hell would most surely have prevailed against it. He had one of the most important duties possible: to save and preserve the mass. It’s incredible when you think about it. I thank God for the SSPX and the True Mass.

So is your faith the SSPX or the Catholic Church? If this is so true, then why was John Paul II given the charism of walking in the shoes of Peter and not Lefebvre who found himself outside the Catholic Church for a time? I have news for you. I attend Mass, the “True” Mass. The one where heaven and joined to Earth and Jesus becomes present. There is no other sacrifice than this that was given once for all. There is no other Vicar of Christ on Earth than the one who holds the keys passed on to St. Peter.

At least your post shows how dangerous and divisive the SSPX** can **be for Catholics.
