Where does a person go to find other traditionally minded Catholics, especially in a large city where things tend to be “liberal” and local parishes don’t have designated “organizations” for such ???

You mean there are absolutely no parishes where you are that have Knights of Columbus or the Militia Immaculata or other types of organizations? Is there a Catholic Business organization or any kind of pro-life group?

I understand how discouraging it can be…but there has to be people near you that you can find…we just have to figure out how.

the “traditio” website has a link to a list of traditional masses throughout the united states and canada. listed are diocesan churches as well as pius x, independants and probably sedavacantists as well. hope this helps. have a good year. (alih)👍

In a large city, I would check first with the cathedral parish. Things tend to be fairly traditional in a cathedral parish - I can vouch for both Baton Rouge and New Orleans. From there it’s fairly easy to find other “traditional” parishes (EF and OF) simply by networking after Mass in the parish hall. I wandered from 1970 to 1983 before I discovered that the cathedral parish best represented what I remembered from before the NO. I drive 25 miles one way and have for the last 25 years

Yes, a visit to traditio will help. Help one be lead astray that is.

I wish there was a banned website list here. Traditio would be in the top 5.

Una Voce would be a better bet…

After further thought, be aware that among traditionalists, there are different mindsets.

Do check out Una Voce at the link in my post above this one. One thing all trads have in common is the Gregorian Rite. Find the Mass and you’ll find trads 🙂

Gardenman, I’ve struggled with this myself.

Generally I’ve found that certain observances and practices in parishes are good indicators of the kind of parish it is. I have found that parishes with the most Adoration/Benediction to be the healthiest, such as weekly Adoration or especially 24-hour Adoration. Parishes that offer Latin Masses, etiher OF or EF, indicate a serious pastor. Also, frequent confession times at a parish shows a pastor who cares about the souls in his charge.

Styles of music can indicate the ‘charism’ of a particular Mass or entire parish.

When I am traveling, I check MassTimes.org and search for parishes this way. A caveat: this website depends on the parishes themselves for updates, so info can be misleading or out of date. But this website can lead you to the parish website or a even a phone number for you to get more accurate information on a parish or diocese.

It goes without saying that a good parish submits to the local bishop and is in union with Rome.

I hope that this is what you were asking and that this helps.

I should have said “a lot of trads” instead of “all trads”.

I was disappointed in the unavoce site. Lots of broken links it appears.

I’d say your best bet is to ask the Diocesan office where is a “traditional” or “conservative” Parish. Might not be the best words to describe what you are looking for, but they would understand.

If you are interested in the TLM, ask them if they offer one in the Diocese, and make sure it is a valid one. Also, older looking churches are generally more likely to have more traditional Catholics.

I think the surest way to find a parish with traditional Catholics is to find one that offers the TLM. The Coalition in Support of Ecclesia Dei has a pretty good listing of EF Masses throughout the US (weekday, Sunday, and Holy Days). Not sure if it is a comprehensive list.
ecclesiadei.org/masses.cfm

Check out the traditional priestly societies (FSSP, ICKSP, SSPX*) - if there is a priest (or better yet a parish) from them then chances are their will be a good number of traditional Catholics.

*SSPX Masses can be attended and fulfill one’s Sunday obligation provided they are attended out of a love / desire for the TLM. Not trying to start any arguments about them, but they can be a source for finding traditional Catholics, not all of who might agree with the actions taken by them.

be charitable in your thoughts and actions. this is a traditional forum is it not? the traditio website has all masses listed, does it not? is it some people’s opinion to “kill the messenger” because they don’t like his message? are some people so insensitive to others as to deny them the opportunity to worship their maker? are some, who claim to be catholic, intollerable to others? i would like to see a little more charity given to those who may find certain views not in keeping with theirs. however, in the long run, mortals are not perfect…yet. have a good year. (alih)👍

what are you talking about? killing the messenger? who is"so insensitive to others as to deny them the opportunity to worship their maker?" where are you getting all this? I can only speak for myself, but I was saying that the site recommends attending an Independent or Sede (SSPV, CMRI) Mass over an Indult / SSPX one.

There are only three places one is ASSURED of finding like minded traditional Catholics. That is at a Priestlly Fraternity of St. Peter Parish, A Society of St. Pius X Parish, and Heaven.

Some Go-Go bars and Strip Joints sell food, but if I’m hungry I’ll look elsewhere.
