How does one prove that the Church has the power to do anything it claims the Christ given authority to do…would be a more accurate question?

I give you the keys…has many different interpretations, but Catholics hold that it gives them carte blanche to do as they wish and that they are infallible in the areas of faith and morals…immunity from error…not a bad power to give yourself.

Pardon me, but this authority came from Christ. Open your bible to Matthew 16 and Matthew 18. It’s not spoken of much outside of the Catholic and Orthodox churches, because it does not square with the man-made tradition of sola scriptura. It came from Christ. There is no power outside of God, and God in Christ. Period. It is a complete shame that so many faith communities fail to see or experience this. Behold the Word of the Lord:

Matthew 16:19 “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

Matthew 18:18 “I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

These are the words of Christ - the power of Christ, given to men. Christ, being perfect, and knowing all in the past, present and future, gave this incredible power to the Apostles. He knew before He gave it to them what they would do with it. He still gave it to them. They passed it on to their successors. Do you believe Christ?

Also, please note that He used the word for “whatever”. In any dictionary, “whatever” encompasses a lot. Everything, in fact. Christ even gave them the authority to write Holy Scripture, and to compile it into a book.

All of this sounds strange to those who belong to recently formed faith communities that cannot trace directly back to Christ. Many can trace their founding to a particular man, Luther, for example, but the Catholic and Orthodox have a straight line directly back to Christ. Praise God in Heaven!

Yes and take a look at what other translations say, not quite so exact now is it…

New American Standard Bible (©1995)
"Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth SHALL HAVE been bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth SHALL HAVE been loosed in heaven.

That means the binding takes place in heaven first and earth second.

Dogmatic absolutism traps itself into a corner of which there is no exit, the only choice is to press oneself deeper into the corner.

I do not believe in sola scriptura, your assumption is wrong. I simply believe the RCC’s monopoly over salvation is incorrect.

Since God already knew what the Apostles would do with the power, was it not actually bound in Heaven first? Christ said it, therefore, it was bound in Heaven first. I don’t get what you are trying to say here. It’s a totally new twist on scripture, IMO.

If you believe in God, should you listen to Him? If He reveals the truth, should you believe it? If God founds a church, should you join it? If you disagree with the truth that God revealed, are you rally following Him? Deny yourself. Take up your cross daily. Then, and only then, follow Him.

It is clear that you are heavily biased against the Catholic, or universal, church. That is your right. It does not change the fact that Christ founded one church and gave it all authority. You don’t like that authority. You can point to abuses in the past, sinful members, leaders even, of the church. How does that affect the truth the church teaches?

If sinful members discredits a church, quit yours, because you have ruined it! If you seek sinners, look first to the Apostles. Christ chose them, each one. Why be Christian then?

Ok so it’s bound and loosed in Heaven first. Doesn’t Christ have the ability through the Holy Spirit to be the cause of binding and loosing on earth?

Below are several versions of the Bible on Matthew 16:19:
Mat 16:19
(DRB) And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven.

It’s one thing to privately interpret scriptures, it’s quite another to search for a version of the Bible to fit your personal interpretation.
May the peace of the Lord be with you,

Romans 14

5One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.

6He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.

7For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.

8For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s.

Every Christian has the authority to recognise a day as holy unto the Lord. :cool:

Its In The Power Of The Church
But Reading The Thread , I Am Thinking About The Question ;

Is There No Problems With The Arranged Feasts Who Must Be Celebrated During The Working Week Days ?
Is There No Way To Settle Down The Calendar Which Lets The People Work During The Week And Celebrate The Feasts During The Days Off ( Saturday , Sunday ) ?

The Feasts Celebrations , Somewhere And In Some Ways Have The Tendency To Let The People Not To Work For A Three Four Days During The Week.
If To Calculate How Much The People Work During The Weeks , Months And Year , I Dare To Think About
Turning This Question To The Ather Question ;
The Question About The Church Feasts During The Working Week .
