Sometimes when I have already committed a Mortal Sin I find myself thinking that it’s okay to commit more Mortal Sins because I will have to go to confession anyway. This is a very bad mindset that is in fact a sin of itself.

What are some tips on combating the Sin of Presumption? Thanks! 🙂

This is a constant problem for me as well. The only thing that I would say is make sure to confess it, as it is an easy one to forget. In your daily prayers ask God to help you change your mindset.

AGAIN, this is something to discuss with your Spiritual Director. You need one on one counseling, not posting all these scenarios online. HE is the one who can help you.

But I didn’t eat it, just thought about it.

Same thing as what u posted…do u think I sinned Melodeonist?

Only God can stop sin. Humans are imperfect and cannot.

Frankly, by having a closer relationship with God. When we don’t love Him very much, we don’t particularly care if we offend Him or not. We just care about technicalities like, “well, I’m going to Confession, so what the heck! I might as well sin some more! Technically, I’ve got a free pass, don’t I?”

When God is a concept or a set of rules or a set of technicalities, then we behave like that. When we know Him and when He’s a person, we don’t.

But getting out of limiting concepts of God is a process and is the result of growth in holiness. And that takes time and it takes development. One day, God willing, things will click. For both of us.

Well stated. YES

Thanks for the replies! Yes, I do indeed have difficulty thinking of God as a person sometimes. Yes, we hear His words, but even then it can be tricky. I suppose that I have some difficulty because I am a convert from Atheism and I was raised secular.

I really need to get a spiritual director. I have been asking father some questions during confession about sins and such and it has been helping a lot. I’ve been very busy with the knowledge death camp (aka that torturous place called college) lately so I have been smashed down for time. I suppose I should ask father sometime in the Summer. 👍

You’d put off your spiritual heath?
Really?

Look, I went to college. I know what it’s like. And that is just an excuse.
You don’t have time to make an appointment to talk to your priest? I think you need to realize that at this point in your life, you only think you don’t have time. Wait until you have a full time job, a wife, a family, a house that needs repairs and maintenance and have to take care of your aging parents. Nope, right now, you have nothing but time.

You are not going to be spending hours upon hours with a spiritual director every week, so please, cross having no time off your list. What is the real reason?

There are numerous reasons.

A big one is time. I like having time to just relax. College deletes lots of time and I’m not really all that interested in my degree. In fact, I’m not really interested in any of the degrees. I know I’d be happier being a mailman or a tradesman. I only need enough money to support one person because I don’t feel called to marriage. I do, however, feel called to be kind to everyone I meet.

Another reason is that I hate having to tell my parents everything. I find telling them about things to be very difficult and embarrassing. It doesn’t really matter what it is. It’s even kind of embarrassing telling them about buying small things, like gloves or lotto tickets. Why? I don’t really know. 🤷

Spiritual direction would be useful not only for sins, but to know whether I am called to be a priest or a lay single. I am very sure I am not called to be a religious because I like being out and about and talking to people everywhere. I also don’t like praying in the traditional sense very much: I much prefer contemplating God’s creation. I know I’m not called to marriage because I am a very set in my ways kind of person and I know that both me and my theoretical wife would be very miserable being married to each other. Also, I wouldn’t want to have to make compromises in my personal life with somebody all the time. I also don’t want to be married or be a religious. That’s why I almost 99% sure that God is calling me either to bringing cheer and kindness to people as a lay single or a priest. In fact, if there was a job where kindness is what you do then I would love that job. 🙂
