How does Satan do his thing, exactly?

So, this Satan character is supposed to be able to “tempt” men and “seduce” us into wickedness, right? What I wonder is, what does this actually mean? How does Satan actually influence the world?

Satan can come in many forms since he is pure spirit and God allows him to play his games. Not every temptation involves satan but rather all evil inclinations arouse him and please him. Our free will when it chooses evil perpetuates the work of satan. Satan also has demons that infiltrate the world to make sure that we turn away from God. Satan and his demons posses a tremendous power to allow us to see evil as glamour and enticing. Just as love moves us to God lies move us to satan. We perpetuate his work in our sins so he really doesn’t need to do all that much. But when he needs to God allows it since we have the ability to choose God and that validates our love for God…teachccd

Read “The Screwtape Letters” by C.S. Lewis. He nailed it. Very, very insightful book. Think about the multiple ways we are manipulated by the world system, that calls evil good and good evil. Movies and TV are great tools. Romantic comedies, chick flicks, often we find ourselves manipulated into rooting for sin. Remember the guy who gave the lottery ticket to the waitress as a tip. Who didn’t cheer when he unloaded the mean wife, and ended up with the love of his life! I work on a mental health floor. We have 2nd and 3rd generation patients. The disfunction is so destructive. Many women (and men too) having baby after baby, only to have them taken by DFS, and they have no insight. Every kid with a different dad. A long term relationship to some of these patients is 6 months to a year. My daughter is an OB nurse, and she struggles with the same issues. Babies born addicted to Meth, which are usually removed and placed into the system immediately, but sometimes they send these beautiful children home to a predictable life of abuse, drugs, and a string of transient boyfriends. It’s heartbreaking, and emotionally confusing at times for those of us who work on the front lines. I’m a Catholic, my knee bows to the Church’s stand on birth controll, but I find myself thinking, “sister, I hope your on birth control.” Satan is alive and well, and wrecking havoc in the subtle, everyday things of our world. It was C.S. Lewis that said, "There is no neutral ground in the universe; every square inch, every split second, is claimed by God and counter-claimed by Satan” Satan is such a creep. Sorry if I rambled. But it’s a struggle.

If I might offer my :twocents:, Satan seems like more of a symbol of our human instincts. It’s not him, it’s just us. …needless to say, I don’t believe in Satan; my religion is labeled as “Agnostic”.

That’s pretty cool and might I say awesome imagination mate. You should consider writing a short story based off of it. It certainly sounds better than most of the **** coming out of Hollywood at the moment.

Has anyone here read Legion by William Peter Blatty? It mentions as a theory that the big bang at the beginning of time is Satan falling from Heaven, and that humanity are pieces of him moving back towards grace.

God loves us, the only way for satan to fight God is to harm those

Satan is not like us he dose not have to attack like a human would.

He knows human nature, he knows you. He will simply use your

Lately Satan does his thing by staying out of sight. IF folks believe he doesn’t exist, then they may fall into the trap to think that God does not exist.

Folks that have a solid foundation of faith, he attacks more openly. I believe he has the ability to plant thoughts, images or suggestions in our mind. Lurid images, random schemes and senuous feelings are used to tempt us into sinning. He can’t control our thinking but he can tempt up with the ideas.

How do you know?

Human behavior. Generally, us humans don’t like pointing fingers at ourselves; we just aren’t very crazy about taking responsibility and learning from our mistakes and actions. Nor do we like to blame God (granted that he exists) when a natural disaster happens. Specific people just need that scapegoat to blame, and they call him Satan.
