Take an alcoholic for example; if the temptation is not based on Satan placing thoughts into our minds or acting as an inner voice, how does he tempt? It has got to be more than just arousing our desires.

To the best of my knowledge and given my research at therealpresence.org, I would say that the evil one also works by obscuring realities from us and from the world. He takes people that are already in his grip and leads them further and further away from God. Those who are close to God, he tries to break by enticing our wills and “releasing our passions”(therealpresence.org). He seduces many into acting upon thoughts or ideas that are ruled by passions and not the truth. Hope that helps it is the best I could do. therealpresence.org/archives/Demonology/Demonology_001.htm

or through the lies, the telling of a lie long enough that doing something is " okay " or " isn’t hurting any one " .

He knows our weaknesses, works off of our past behaviors, fears, etc. We can thwart his efforts by changing the way we respond in certain situations. Satan is not omniscient.

This is the process of falling into sin – as we are interiorly defiled we suffer from sinful urge and are helpless against temptations despite desiring good and end up sinning against our own will. “For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin. For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I desire to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. If, then, I do what I desire not to do, I agree with the law that it is good. But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.” (Rom 7:14-18)

Just as it takes two hands to produce a clap it takes two forces to commit a sin – an external temptation pulls us while an internal sinful urge pushes us and we fall into the quagmire called sin.

There is very little we can do about external snares and our sole defence therefore is in cleansing ourselves of all interior defilement. *“For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. These are what make a man ‘unclean’.” *(Matt 15:19-20a)

What about mental trance-states where Satan narrows our attention and awareness to the point that all we think about is the satisfaction of our sinful urges. Satan must affect our conscious and unconscious in some way, shape or form.

What’s the difference between an alcoholic and homosexual? Both are based on inner sinful urges, but the cognition of wanting to sin in a particular manner must be produced by a mental plan that Satan influences.

I tend to believe that at an early age, Satan is hard at work influencing our perceptions, desires and a plan for fulfilling our sinful desires. Homosexuality, for example, begins at an early age and must be based on urges that get acted-out, and the plan for acting-out must be enticed by Satan. In short, Satan must influence our perverted desires, our plan for fulfilling these urges, and the situation where we have the opportunity to sin.

The subject must be researched jointly by psychologists and spiritualists for a deeper understanding. My limited understanding is this: our interior defilement can be transmitted genetically and part of the salvation process involves both absolution for committed sins as well as freedom (liberation) from inherent sinful natures. The former (absolution) is more of an event while the latter (purgation) is a long drawn process which could spill over into the next life.

well if homosexuality begins early on in youth, nowadays our society is leaving the door wide open at night for satan, with a red carpet
