How does the word of God change

In such books as Leviticus were he names all these laws most of which he says are punishable by death. How come we still don’t live by them. these words are God word yes? so why are they changed? God surely knows all so his rules should be difinative through all time right? so why don’t people get killed for not wearing cloths of all the same material and such anymore? I know most will say the sacraments but in the OT those were not around and we definitely don’t follow them like they did. If God says you should be killed for this isn’t that final. In the OT there was no way to repent even if what you did was a mistake so why since God is all knowing would he have to change the rules if he knows all the future and past couldn’t he have seen that we were going to stumble all over and to say your punishment is death doesn’t seem to merciful.

I know its morbid to think about but thats Gods word right? could these have been more of a cultural idea than Gods word?

Im really confused.

I am not much of a scholar, but it would seem the answer has to do with the old covenant versus the new in Jesus Christ. I would be interested in a clearer answer as well.

From what I have read and reread of the OT.
The OT says you will die if you do such and such but they gave people a running head start like we will count to ten and if you make to that island we will leave you be?
I think they actually excused some.

hmm still not sure how this answers the question of the Levitical law and why we don’t follow it to the death part. I don’t even think people who practice Judaism who still follow old testament Levitical law kill anyone who doesn’t follow it… How do they receive forgiveness for their transgressions? are they simply denied as being part of their religious order now days or do they have a way of being forgiven of any sin even those that are punishable by death like in levitical law.

i bet this will be moved to other religions section now.

The reason we don’t follow the Levtical law (or, for that matter, the 10 Commandments) is that they are part of the Old Covenant. Jesus fulfilled the Old Covenant and established a New Covenant. Those aspects of The Law that were important he restated: Love the Lord your God will all your heart, all your mind and all your soul and your neighbor as yourself. He also gave the the Church to power to bind and to loose and She established other laws that we are bound to.

:bowdown: The word of GOD haven’t changed but the worshippers way of living and the jews or hebrews must live according to the laws and the word of GOD or else they are not real spiritual jews to follow the word of GOD must be a way of living same to christians it must be a way of living or else you are wasting your time worship,no matter where you are in the world you must live up the standards of GOD thats is the only way that we can keep GOD’S name holly ,that is why the world o/k the humans is in such a crisis they have moved to far away from GOD’S word and making thier own laws.
You must live your live according to the ten commandments and love GOD with your whole heart and sole and love your neighbours and your enemies and those who hate you.👍

Deacon Ed: I am confused by your statement that we don’t follow the 10 Commandments. I understand about not following Levitcal Law and disciplines, but I have never heard that the Commandments were also included, especially in light of Matthew 19:16-19 wherein Jesus specifically tells the young man to keep the Commandments. Can you elucidate? Thanks.

At the church I attend, some women lead a Bible study. What is the best way to tell them to shut up. We must not have women speaking in church when the Bible forbids them to (1 Timothy 2:12).

The OT contains shadows of the full truth revealed in the NT by Christ. Those things punishable by death are what we would now consider mortal sins or are symbolic of things we now consider mortal sins. The punishment of death was but a shadow of the true consequence of grave sin–eternal damnation.

:bowdown: The new testament is more a forgivable covenant where there is no sacrifising of animals when you sin but you must live it and also keep all the commandments in such a way that to show the people you are not bad without telling others how bad they are.You must live your live as christian for others to see the good in you or else it doesn,t work.👍
