If a woman is living away from home and not registered in a parish where she lives and wants to be married in her home parish where she grew up, does she need to get permission from a pastor where she is currently living even though the pastor would not know her because she is not registered in any church nor is she attending any church where she is living. She does attend her home parish when she is home. Does it make sense in today’s world for a priest to give permission for a woman to marry when he has never met her and does not know who she is?

Hi,

First of all, she needs to be registered in a parish that she supports and is known in. Otherwise, her home parish may not do the wedding. It is the parish that she is registered in that will do all the paperwork and marriage prep. She can register in the parish of her choice. It doesn’t have to be the one she lives closest to. But she does need to belong to a parish.
