How does your parish handle the gift of unconsecrated hosts within the context of the Pauline Mass?

We currently process one large ciborium. Consecrated hosts are then distributed by the priestly celebrant prior to Holy Communion.

I hope we begin to do with distribution BEFORE the consecration down the road.

I chose sepearted after Consecration, but I cant remember for sure when its done. Becuae we generally have a paten with a big one that he uses, and then the ciborium that holds the ones for distribution

And why do you hope they change to before the consecration? Is that supposed to be the norm?

Nope, not the norm, but the distribution around here doesn’t always go that smoothly…

We have one open ciboria that is processed to the Altar during the preparation of the gifts. This ciboria is used by the priest to distribute to the people. Another is taken from the tabernacle and used by the EMHC - not recommended, I know.

The same happens in our parish.

BTW, it’s 1 ciborium, 2 or more ciboria.

I wish we did, instead we use a glass platter that looks like something from pier1 or bed bath and beyond.

I remember back around 2000 I asked our “liturgy coordinator” why we used cheap glass stemware and cheap glass salad bowls to distribute the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity at Mass, and why we used a punch bowl and a lemonade pitcher to process the gifts to the altar.

Clearly angered she said we would NEVER use gold sacred vessels at this parish again! That using the Wal*Mart ware made it seem more like a meal. I walked away throughly disgusted.

One morning there was a little gift in the local paper. One of her groupies wrote a letter to the editor extolling her virtues. That opened the door. Someone then hammered her hard on several liturgical issues in the paper with a second letter to the editor – including the use of the Wal*Mart ware. Someone then clipped the article and mailed it to the bishop.

Within 2 weeks were were taking a second collection to pay for new gold vessels. This was done during a period where the pastor was functionally absent most of the time.
