The Book of Mormon…at least in my opinion…is a “retelling” of some Bible stories…using “new characters”…if the “narrative” were removed from the Book of Mormon, what would be left is a lot of “restating” of biblical passages to form the “religious” parts of the book.
It tells the stories of several migrations of Hebrews/Jews to the New World…around the tower of Bable…just before the Exile and one other colony I don’t remember too well.
The Book of Mormon is basically “orthodox” in it’s teachings…it reflects the theological beliefs and concerns of those folks living in the 19th century…the “Great Awakening” had began in the late 18th century…many religious groups came out of this time.
I have a nice leather copy of the RLDS edition given to me by some good RLDS friends.
I refer to it from time to time just to keep a grasp of it’s content.

Just Surprised That His Name Was Mentioned at All, Particularly Since He Is VERY Anti-Semitic AND Anti-Catholic.

To any reader who happens by:
Please understand first that the Jehovah’s Witnesses do not use the Book of Mormon, and are a totally separate religion with no similarity other than people out “knocking on doors”.
The Book of Mormon does not replace the Bible. It came about in a similar way as the books in the Bible came about: a family, led by a prophet, left Jerusalem in about 600 BC or left the tower of Babel group in about 2200 BC (two different parts of the Book of Mormon), and were guided and helped in crossing the ocean to the Americas, where they had ongoing communication with God through prophets who wrote the words of God given to them. The Book of Mormon gives those who are interested, the words of those prophets, and teaches about Jesus Christ who was important to them just as He is important to all of us.
If one thinks of the story of Ruth, then perhaps one can get a picture in their mind that God can take a small situation of a family and bring about a marvelous thing from a small situation. People’s lives can be changed by God through His guiding hand in their lives, anywhere in the world, at any time.

Really? No similarities? My friend, who completed a two year mormon proseletyzing mission said that Jehovah’s Witnesses come closest to the truth out of all the religions he learned about on his mission. What is the truth to my friend? Mormonism. I have no idea how your friend ever drew the conclusion he told you about. Even reading the simple article you linked shows there are far more differences than two similarities (baptism by immersion and “knocking on doors”). There are Protestant denominations that would be far closer to Mormonism than the Jehovah’s Witnesses, and Catholicism is also closer in many more ways.
The LDS use the King James Version of the Bible, which many older Protestant denominations use–the Book of Mormon is a totally separate text of scripture. It does, however, show and tell that the Bible is truly from God and should be read and studied and followed.

Once again, you contradict yourself because you admit there are similarities other than they go door to door. Maybe you meant to say no big similarity besides. Anyone can see by reading your other posts that you understand the nuances of the language. Why not use them? Because you don’t want your church to be associated with JWs.

The Jehovah’s Witnesses use the Watchtower magazine and insert some bible verses, along with their teachings. Instead of reading the verses in the context of the Bible, it is read however the Jehovah’s Witnesses want to teach it. They also use the New World Translation which has some errors.
