How exactly does grace save someone?

The only thing you need to do that is not considered WORK is to believe on Jesus that He alone can save you. That is all your “participation”, no more work…That is what God is asking from all of us that we believe on Jesus Christ (trusting faith).

“I do a good work so that others may know whom I believed… I don’t do a good work so that God may open heaven for me.”

Doing a good work benefits my neighbor, and those around who will see me, and that they may also believe (trust) in Him whom I have believed.

Would you agree that God already knew me from the start, if I believed Him truly or not… Does God need me to show Him my good works in order for me to prove anything to Him? No…

God is offering you salvation through Christ (GRACE)… if you accept God’s gift, then you are participating or cooperating with God’s plan of salvation… However, if you would like to think that God will need you to do something other than believing then it cannot be considered grace anymore since the salvation that God can give you about it is already a reward… not grace, or God’s gift (Rom. 6:23)
If you say gift do you have to work for it?

Freewill is having to choose… You choose to trust Jesus Christ as your saviour or not? that is free will… God does not dictate or force you to accept or trust Jesus to be your saviour and trust on Him that He only can save you, and nothing you can do can let you enter heaven… You may choose to accept Him or trust Him (God’s plan of salvation) or you may also reject Him and try something else… its your choice

Eaglesmark,

Suffice it to say we are never going to agree on this, but I’ll try. Faith in Jesus is a work. Is…a…work. It requires you to do something. You have to accept his gift and follow his commands. You can’t earn heaven, but you can earn hell.

Do small babies go to hell if they die since they’ve never accepted Jesus? Careful, if we allow for one exception, then others can start coming to mind…

The Catechism of the Catholic Church has the best explanation IMO.

You have made a very good point here. Jesus was actually asked what is the work of God.

Jn6:29Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.”

Titus 3:5
He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,

Since we know that it is God whom does a mighty work in us not ourselves, it is by His power and His works that deeds of righteousness are accomplished, we can see why we are saved by His mercy and not on our deeds. Our “work” is really to believe in Him whom God sent just as Christ told us so.

If you don’t think it is work to believe in Christ, then I suspect you have not felt the full impact of the world upon you yet.

Blessings,
Len
