How far away are we from a world-wide government?

I would caution anyone to actually read the Vatican’s document before jumping to conclusions based on media reports. THe details will probably make more sense than the headlines. I do not believe the Vatican supports a world-wide government.

And we are not that close to a world-wide government. Unfortunately, we are moving more and more away from the principle of subsidiarity in all things political, and that does seem like a global trend.

aint a world wide government and a world wide bank what the anti-christ is going to do or something?

As far as I can tell, we’re moving further and further away from any kind of one world government: things are just too churned up for anyone to agree on anything, let alone a government. Besides, the world is too big a place for that to be really a viable system.

How far away is the world from a “global public authority” and a “central world bank,” which the Vatican supports? newsmax.com/Newsfront/vatican-economic-authority-pope/2011/10/24/id/415466 It’s where the world is headed, I think. Corporations will be key in such an advance.
The “Vatican” does not support that. The committee for justice and peace is a leftist committee that has run counter to the “Vatican” (i.e. The Magisterium of The Catholic Church) more than once. It has been suggested that they be shut down.

Sure, I can see it now, the Iranians and the Israelis shaking hands and giving up power to a global government!!

The reports about those statements are a bit… suspect.

Anyway, world wide govt? I’d say if it did happen, it’d be either as a result of a massive world war which decimates the population to the point that a WWG would be the only way to manage, or in at least 200 years from just normal diplomatic ramblings. But I just can’t see us reaching a WWG without a massive war.

Would you have envisioned America and the British shaking hands during the Revolutionary war? Would you have envisioned America shaking hands with Japan and Germany during WW II? Would you have envisioned America shaking hands with Russia during the Cold War? Both the British and Russia voluntarily gave up a lot of “power” during the 20th Century.

Well, the closest we have come to a world-wide government lately is the United Nations. I think most people would agree the UN is one of the most corrupt, UN-Christian organizations on the face of the Earth. Why would we want an even bigger, more corrupt government in charge of the whole world? That would be a huge amount of power in the hands of a few individuals, something the Church would not counsel. Think about it. If this world government decided that Sharia Law was the law of the world, would we, individually, and the Church submit?

Islam has not conquered all the nations yet, I’ll give it a million years via war or a thousand by offspring.

No – merely a Pontifical Council which is confused and has leftist tendencies as Ignatius has pointed out.

It has no teaching authority and is creating confusion just when prudence, justice fortitude and temperance are required following foolish stimuli, government finagling with free enterprise, and galloping consumer debt.

With the experience of the U.N., world government is the very last thing needed.

They didn’t really shake hands, did they? Americans kicked teh Brits out by force, they didn’t ask them to leave politely. The Japanese and the Germans lost a war, don’t think for a minute they would have accepted a ceasefire if they still had the upper hand.

The Cold War, that just sort of tapered out without either side really loosing face. And as it stands, the Russians, under Putin, might stirr things up again.

What’s the average birthrate in Western countries? About 1.9 - 2? Its currently teetering about replacement level, if not slightly below.

Then you go take a look at the Islamic birthrate in Muslim countries.

They don’t need a war. They jsut need numbers. And they can easily have those within two, maybe three generations.

I don’t think it is up to us any more. Technology has already created a popular mindset on a global scale. The kind of freedoms that people in the middle east are dying for flows from a popular mindset made ever more available to them by new technologies. Advances in communication technologies have had more effect on global politics than anything else imo.

Technology is driven by the human desire to not be burdened by the powers of nature. As technology fulfills that desire it seems to me that the nations will unite under a single economy :twocents:
