I really should thank Our Lady for this. I love these chocolates!

No kidding. Though a rare treat, I can’t get enough of these.

Well, you’ve persuaded me they belong in Easter baskets!

The candy really looks like the Rocher de Massabielle at Lourdes! Candy canes have religious meaning with the white = purity of Christ, red = blood of Christ, and peppermint = hyssop

Plus it’s shaped like a shepherd’s hook! the Good Shepherd.
The anointing with oil at an Eastern parish during the Christmas season had this delightful peppermint smell to it. Love it.

Someone ruined perfectly good chocolate with a big honking hazelnut. Our Lady would be so disappointed 🙂

In some homes, that only increases the odds that those who actually like hazelnuts (comme moi!) will get some. 😉

Seriously, though, the Greeks and Romans held the hazelnut tree was the symbol of marriage, abundance of wealth and family happiness and the nut was a symbol of peace and health. Mostly, though, they really liked the flavor, as many Europeans do to this day.

No accounting for taste, eh? Is it that you don’t like hazelnuts or that you are in the “what is the extra thing doing in the middle of my chocolate?!?!” school of thought?

I do not like any tree nuts, and only like peanuts if they are in smooth, sweet butter form

Fair enough. My son feels the same way.

This is my favorite recipe for him:

If you know how to temper eggs, it couldn’t be easier. I love it. (Definitely needs the whipped cream layer, though…wow, that is CHOCOLATE pie!!)

Oh, my, no. The texture of nuts is simply gross (and don’t even get me started on boiled peanuts).

Excellent news! Did you know that orange and white cats (who are usually male, by the way) have an M on their forehead that traditionally is seen as Mary’s kiss–because an orange cat was at the Nativity? I have an orange cat for that reason.
