I was reading Matthew Chapter 7 which says
13Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Does any know how few will make it?

Jesus was not telling us how many people will make it to heaven but rather challenging us with this metaphor to keep to the “narrow way” and enter by the “strait gate” and so avoid being lost.

God does not will that any be lost, nor is he itching to damn people. But, he does expect us to be faithful to the truth we have been gvien, and to be obedient to his call upon our lives.

There was an interesting statement from St. Thomas Aquainus regarding the number to be saved. If I’m not mistaken, he mentioned that the number to be saved would replace the number of Angels that fell.

Interesting to think about.

Who cares?? Your task and mine is to live the life we have been given in faith, loving and caring for those whom God has entrusted to us and trusting in the mercy of the Most High.
Everything else is vapor of vapors.

Matthew

Drafdog has a good point. We may hope for many to be saved, but it’s more important to trust and be obedient than it is to know the numbers.

:signofcross:Lord Jesus Christ, save us from the fires of Hell. Lead all souls to Heaven, especially those who are most in need of Thy mercy.
Amen.:gopray:

Jesus said so himself that we must perfect to enter heaven.

How many perfect people do you know?

My feeling most if not all but two of us are going to hell. My goal in life now is only to make it easier for another to go to heaven by being as good as I can be according to the church and pray for others as hard as I can. That way I will not be as big as a temptation and hopefully an aid for those who have the will, the ability, and the grace to reach perfection in this life time. You may think that this is despair but here is my small hope, in hell there are different levels of suffering according to our sins, with all that pain and suffering, that I deserve, maybe knowing one person made it because I tried and prayed for them will give me the smallest respite and comfort in my endless suffering. :o

Rather, think how many will make it.
Jesus is merciful if you ask Him to be.=]
