How Green are you?

If you are Bright Green, then you believe that the best way to increase human prosperity is by means of new technologies and products (e.g., electric cars) that reduce environmental impact .

If you are Light Green, then you believe that the best way is for individuals to make lifestyle and behavioral changes (e.g., turning off lights in house).

If you are Dark Green, then you believe that the best way is to abandon capitalistic consumerism, and adopt a more local, grassroots, rural-based human economy; otherwise, human society will eventually collapse.

If you are Gray, then you believe that no changes are needed in how humans interact with the environment.

I am electric blue.

I believe we should move towards a localized economy like the dark greens, but not because of the environment. I believe we should move in that direction for the sake of human beings.

I believe that people, including those entities known as legal persons or corporations, should clean up after themselves and not make messes affecting other people’s property.

I also believe that while God made us stewards of the earth, we don’t have to keep it exactly as we find it for good stewardship. I don’t think we have to preserve every species and habitat to the detriment of the rights of human beings.

So, I am not any sort of green, nor do I seem to be gray.

I like this post. But based on what the options were that seems like Green bc it’s a combo of light and dark green. 😃

I’m still trying to decide, but I know I’m some type of green and not gray at all. 🤷

God bless :byzsoc:

I like the idea of Dark Green, but I know it’s nigh to impossible to get everyone to change their lifestyles that radically, plus, not everyone is capable of living that way, either, due to temperament or their ability level. I guess I’m a Light Green, since I think everyone should try do their part, depending on their circumstances or their environment.

Congratulations on having 777 posts.😃

Hmmm… well my business runs on solar energy and uses the city power grid for backup power. We recycle gray water for irrigation. I am very aware and conservation oriented in my personal life. For example, I avoid eating animal protein because its production is so wasteful. I have no idea what color of green that makes me. I believe that conservation is morally mandated as long as others are in need, and also to avoid polluting our home. In Christian parlance, I would consider driving an empty SUV everywhere, and other wasteful behavior as being gluttony.

I guess I’m kind of a rainbow of greens. I agree with all of the green beliefs you have listed and I can’t choose which way is best. I don’t think that everyone can be all those shades of green but that we should do what we can. If I live in an apartment I obviously can’t grow much of a garden but if I have 20 acres I can see a lot of potential. I live in a house with a fairly large yard (at least to me) and I’m trying to grow my own crops (with little success so far). I also keep the lights off if possible and I guess I’m lucky (in a way) because I’m disabled and don’t have to drive very much.

I also live in a small, rural community and like to buy produce from the farmers’ market during the spring and summer and I’m trying to learn to make do without all the stuff I have but don’t need and to learn to make what I do need. I love the book *Walden *and would like to live in a similar way.

Good for you!! That is very impressive!! 🙂

I hate driving an SUV, even though it’s a compact SUV. I drive rarely but feel guilty when I do so. I had to buy an SUV because of a back injury. I would much rather have bought a small hybrid. I can’t. Dang.

I’m actually a bit more of a creamy beige. My makeup is called Light Ivory. Green just doesn’t look good on me, it makes me look a little ill actually.

Guess I would be “Bobcat white” and “Caterpillar yellow”. I believe the best stewards of the environment are those who understand it best and tend it in a careful and knowledgeable way.

I use my bobcat to encourage growth of the “fast growers” of valuable trees, preserving here and there the other trees and shrubs that provide food and shelter for wildlife. I also enjoy cleaning up creek channels to encourage fish and the critters that depend on fish for food.

Most any farmer or rancher takes very good care of the environment. Most would do more if they could. I’m fortunate to own a bobcat and have access to bigger equipment if I need it. Too bad there isn’t more incentive for farmers and ranchers to do it. Lots of that kind of work takes “big muscle”, and machines can certainly provide it. They are nothing but extensions of the hand of man, and can do a lot more for the environment than throwing billings at some bogus outfit like Solyndra. Should have made low-interest loans for environmental improvement to farmers and ranchers; even outright grants. That would have actually done some good. There is some of that now, but nowhere near enough. I never sign up for those programs and just do stuff on my own, because the government conservation programs are too narrow and not worth the hassle.

How is grass-fed beef wasteful? 1/3 of this country is grassland and can’t be anything else. Humans can’t digest grass. Ranching uses up far less energy than grain or vegetable farming, and is easier on the environment.

Would you reconsider if you had access to totally grass-fed beef that is no higher-priced than any other?

Not trying to sell you here, just asking.

I’m liturgical green. At least until Ordinary Time ends in a few weeks. 😛

On the rare occasions that I eat beef, it is grass fed, but I had not thought of conservation issues. Thanks for pointing that out. My reason is the lipid issue. Lipids from grain fed beef cause inflammation in the body on the cellular level, while lipids from truly grass fed beef does not.

In the US, we feed our cattle enough grain to feed the entire world. That is wasteful, and in my own life I would call it gluttony to consume beef while knowing that.

I tend to be in the middle of “Light Green” and "Dark Green’. I believe we should cut consumer energy costs best we can…realized cost savings right away is LED and CFL lamps.

Turning off lights at home when we aren’t in the room.

Use as much recycled material as possible…recycle.

Dress plainly. Buy well made quality clothing…one has to weigh the pros and cons when it comes to cost and savings for clothing.

Shop at Salvation Army and Goodwill for household items…might take a while but you’ll eventually find that “kitchen gadget” you’ve been wanting.

Recycle books that you no longer read…I collect antique books…so I make room for them instead of new books…most of my books are yardsale…Goodwill…Salvation Army or good book sales…I must have a couple thousand books.

Cut down your heat…if cold in the house…wear a sweater or wrap…I’ve found the “Snuggie” is great sitting in one’s favorite chair to read warm and comfy.

We must be conscious of our environment…I’m not a fan of shopping at Walmart or Winco…but sometimes…it just makes good economic sense to do so…one must weigh the institutional inequalities and poor business practices that do not honor the person which Walmart has fallen into criicism…we are our brother’s keeper.

I think we need balance…
