How has EC spirituality changed you?

How has an adoption of an EC private devotion changed you?

Syncretism - the mixing of Rites into hybrids - is the problem. Both in the liturgical examples you’ve given, and in the lives of individuals of syncretic practice I have known. (emphasis mine)

In all cases, it is something different - neither A nor B, and often, incomplete, and frequently unhealthy.

Those of Syncretic practices I have known have either abandoned the church, or picked one or the other and gone that direction. Long term, it’s not stable, at least not that I’ve seen.

I am in no way challenging Aramis (who can undoubtedly handle a challenge ) but would like to learn more about those who have incorporated Eastern PRIVATE DEVOTIONS and how it has changed the person…for better or worse…

My spiritual life had been enriched by looking East: joining in Divine Liturgies, discovering ancient (yet new to me) prayers, and adjusting my theological glasses to an Eastern perspective. However, i may have gone too far as I’ve also been recently spirituality courted by some active proselytizing of Orthodox friends. (That may be a different post all together, heh!)

Again, my question is to ask, ‘How have you been affected by adopting Eastern personal, private devotions?’ Did it confuse you? Did you have a spiritual director and if so, from which Church? Have you left the Catholic faith for Orthodoxy or from the Faith altogether? Has it changed your perspective on any thing and if so, how?

House shrine:

• Icon corner (at least one icon)
• Morning and night prayer
• May use lamp and incense
  Daily prayers (Divine Praises):
• Jesus Prayer (with or without rope or beads) - walking or stationary
• Hours (Compline, Midnight, 1, 3, 6, 9), Public: Matins, Vespers (can also be private)
• Spontaneous prayers
