Mulder and Scully? Yes! Krycek? Yep! The Loan Gunmen? Heck yeah! The Smoking Man? Gotta love him.

Just out of curiosity, did you ever actually watch it?
Tunguska, yes.

Long enough to get bored. Early on, in the skinny Scully days, then less and less. I am not a fan of conspiracy shows. Possibly because of my long-time interest in real-world odd stuff. The first book I ever bought was Ruppelt’s REPORT ON UNIDENTIFIED FLYING OBJECTS, which started my large collection of UFO/crypto-zoology/mysteries of history/unexplained science stuff books. Couple of hundred.

Show bored me to tears.

Wow… Totally inconsistent with the profiling I’ve done on GKC…

Hey, when I’m typing 90 WPM and doing three other things including watching a five, four, and three year old plus intermitent guitar playing, cut me some slack, Jack! :D:p
Not to be a hairsplitter, but wasn’t it the Lone Gunmen?

I think it’s all the drinking. You missed a lot of good TV-watchin’ buddy! All because you hit the vino too hard. I’ll tell ya…😛 You were probably multi-tasking reading about some Soviet MIG, hittin’ the vino, and doing crosswords all while watching this sacred, wonderful show that I cherish!😛
I am a man of many mysteries.

Okey-dokey. It’s just “lone” gunmen is so much cleverer than “loan” gunmen.

Scully’s name, as you likely know, was taken from the name of the author of one of the “flying saucers are real/conspiracy” book from the early 50s, BEHIND THE FLYING SAUCERS, which I got, somewhere around here.

GKC

Sorry, but not true, Jim. Scully’s name came from Chris Carter’s boyhood hero, Vin Scully, the voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers. He grew up listening to Scully’s calling the Dodgers games down in SoCal. He actually still does broadcast for the Dodgers!

I’ve actually heard both stories. And that Doggett or someone was also named for a broadcaster.

I like the Frank Scully idea.

GKC

What exactly caused the current crisis in the Anglican church and the growing toleration of same-sex relationships and their being seen as compatible with Scripture.
The schism with the Roman Catholic Church in 1534. 😃

Whatever you’ve heard from the other side is wrong. History is complicated. 😛 I actually watched an interview with Chris Carter and he said on screen the boyhood hero-worship of Vin Scully and the Dodgers. I’ve read it also in interviews in magazines and online as well. I would cast away the Frank Scully idea even if you do like it :D:cool:

Naw… I want to believe…that the Scully book played a part.

Anyway, as we know…

The Truth is out there.

Hey vsedriver,

At least your post is on topic, unlike recent posts by my good friends (not to mention names, but their initials are GKC and Gurneyhalleck1, who are having far too much fun and I’m jealous.) Ooops, I just went off topic. 😊

Back to your “schism” comment. There was a schism between Rome and the East, which did not end the same way. The Orthodox have managed to hold fast to Christian Tradition very well.

Yes…and the Truth is that it was a great show, dang it!😃

If anyone starts such a thread, and I can find it, I’ll play.

As to Hank, he being one of my hobby areas and a fascinating train wreck, I tend to steam-roller the cartoon history.

In going back to the original question, I’m posting a link to The Church of St. Peter. This is an Anglican Church that broke with TEC. The following is a quote from the “About Us” section of their website. If you take a few minutes to read the full page on “About Us”, you will see the pain and agony this congregation has endured, and its commitment to Christian orthodoxy. There are countless stories like this one playing out in the Anglican Communion. These are the stories that don’t make the headlines.

**"In 1976 , the Convention of ECUSA voted to allow women to be ordained priests and bishops. This action took place after several women had already been illegally ordained! This novel step was the first in the destruction of the Apostolic Ministry. Soon other heretical acts followed, including:
  1. Changing the rules of marriage, thus encouraging the destruction of the Christian family.
  2. Changing the written word of God to meet worldly standards.
  3. Ordination of practicing homosexual men and women.
  4. Blessing of same-sex unions approved by bishops."**
Gurney, you will appreciate this story, because this Anglican Church saw the Ordination of Women as the “first in the destruction of the Apostolic Ministry.”

Peace,
Anna
