How has the internet impacted your Catholic Faith?

As a Lutheran, it influenced me on learning about the Catholic faith, and made me realize that I was much closer to Catholicism than Lutheranism.

Because, although a crade Catholic, I was pretty poorly cathechized, I am very happily learning quite a lot on the Net and on Catholic radio. It has made me a better Catholic and a better parent. Every day I learn stuff I never even heard of before. It has helped me so much! Never said a rosary til I heard it on the radio…

Hi Jack:
I’m glad I came accross your thread. This seems to be a good place to post “Finding time during Lent”; an article I found on Catholic Exchange web-site.
The author who loves the internet probably as much as we do is trying to come to grips with his Lenten sacrifices: Should he make one of his ‘sacricices’ not being on line as much during this Holy Season.
I have to confess with some embarrassment–I don’t think I can. I love to read as author does, my Conservative newspapers-- and most of all posting on Catholic message boards such as this one.
Are there others who feel the same?

Sorry to be responding so late but my e-mail is set for my work and I did not know about your response until today.

I have to agree that anything that takes from our prayer life or even family life needs to be curbed.

For Lent I gave up video games (except Sundays) and have found a lot more time for prayer and my family.

Internet can be obsessive too. I think we all need to be aware of our obsessions and keep them under control. And yes it can be difficult.

God Bless and Peace,

Jack

It’s impacted me in several ways. The first was the exposure to chat boards - especially ones that had a slew of anti-catholics. It was an opportunity for me for apologetics (both to defend and learn my faith).

Out in the cyber world I also met some hard-core atheists. I wandered over to their website and engaged in some debates. Nothing like getting your hat handed to you to hone your arguing skills. It’s thanks to them though that I recognize poor arguments and that there is a logical explanation for our faith.

Then there is exposure to sites like www.catholic.com and others which have been a great resource.

The internet has been a great help to me, it brought me to Catholic Answers & I have found many intersting facts here & on other web sites.

You guys have GOT to check out Father Jeffrey Mickler’s You Tube channel. He is totally awesome. And he seems to delve into some deeper issues, rather than just sticking with the basics.

Father Jeffrey Mickler’s You Tube Channel

In particular, check out Father Jeffrey’s debunking of the finding of the Tomb of Jesus documentary. He’s totally awesome! He’s also got a cute laugh.

Last night, I came across two more Catholic You Tube channels, one by some Franciscan Friars and another by some priests in Canada. I’ll need to review those more before I recommend them. Seem OK so far though!

SSPX has lots of videos on You Tube. Haven’t looked at those yet.

The WORST is the Berean Beacon You Tube Channel. Their rabid anti-Catholicism and LIES inspired me to start my own You Tube Channel as a counter-response. If it wasn’t for their library of 91 Anti-Catholic videos on You Tube and Google, I’d have never been inspired to tape Vic Scaravilli and post his classes on the Internet.

Funny thing is, my videos are getting more views than Berean Beacon – and most of my videos haven’t been up for more than two weeks! (One video has been on for a month). It is fortunate that Mr. Bennett is so DULL that no one wants to sit through one of his lectures! We’d be in serious trouble if he had any spark to his conviction.

Anyway, Vic Scaravilli will put Mr. Bennett out of business!

Even more, my Sissy Cat videos have gotten more views than Mr. Bennett’s rants. LOL!!! My most popular video is Sissy Cat vs. Dustmop. Quite popular on You Tube. People LOVE my Sissy!

I shall return!

God Bless
