Isn’t “dark” an emotion? I know that emotions are strong and are not always easy to handle, but Jesus did say that if you love me keep my commandments. That means that a person is pleasing to Jesus and not dark. Dark implies sin. So if you are going to the sacraments as you say, then you are light, bearing the light of Jesus within you.
But I’m not in heaven, hence darkness. I don’t have the beatific vision. I don’t have conversations with God. I don’t have a personal relationship with God. I am temporally punished by God for Adam’s sin.
Again this takes trust in what Jesus has told us. We trust his words.
A good practice is to say often, “Jesus I trust in you”. He would not lie to us.
Many a grace depends on our own disposition as preparation to receive grace which is the light and power of Jesus. So if we trust him and take him at his word, then that light of Jesus is really within us.
Just pray often, “Jesus I trust in you”.
