How is it that God forgives sins?

How is ti that GOD forgives sins? Or can it vary somehow?

Sins must be put under the blood of Jesus to be forgiven. If this was not true then Jesus would not have to come to suffer and die for them, He could have just stayed in heaven.

There is no other name given under heaven by which men shall be saved. Or any other way than through Christ.

I’m not understanding your point. Are you implying sins are forgiven sans the blood of Jesus?

I love how the resurrected Jesus’ first word to the group was “peace,” or “shalom.” Meaning peace, calm, right relationship. It is also interesting that the very next thing he talked about was forgiveness. I believe you can’t have one without the other. The two are intimately linked.

I am the RCIA catechist at my rural Kansas parish. Thanks for the affirmation. I always try to keep this in mind when teaching about the sacraments.

In order to understand forgiveness, I think it helps to try and understand the greatest commandments.

When Jesus spent his time on earth, he could do nothing greater than love God and love all his neighbours as he loves himself. But how did Jesus hold out his hands on the cross and love the man with the hammer?

We know Jesus prayed forgive them Father. Whilst forgiving is a great thing to do, it still falls short of loving the hammer man as he loves himself.

We all know that it is my sins and your sins that caused the death of Jesus, we can only hope that Jesus loves each and everyone of us as he loves himself.

There is often a paradox with the linking of peace and forgiveness though. We are called to forgive, even if we don’t “feel” the peace. That’s where we rely on God for help. We are supposed to go ahead and make the act of the will to forgive, and trust God for the feelings. Father Larry Richards recounted a store about Corrie Tenboom at a speaking engagement somewhere in Europe seeing in the audience a guard from the concentration camp she was held in during WWII. To her horror, the guard approached her after her talk, and asked her for her forgiveness. She told of how she didn’t “feel” like forgiving him, but she did it anyway, and trusted in God for the feelings. It was really a powerful story.

Eric my friend, it seems to me that there is a lack of necessary clarity here.

The Entire Bible can be summed up and defined as LOVE

God’s love in BOTH unconditional {IN HIS OFFERING IT TO US}; and conditional in making it POSSIBLE for us to attain and RECEIVE IT.

Hence His One True Faith & Church {the RCC}
Hence Christian Baptism
Hence the Most Holy Eucharist which make POSSIBLE love of God and our Neighbor
Hence Sacramental Confession where God’s Forgiveness is granted GODS WAY {Jn 20:19-20}
Hence the Last Rites that have the SAME effect on sin as does Christian Baptism

Each of these is a accurate, and in a sense TOTAL act of God;s Forgiveness

The TRUE issue is NOT God forgiving us; its US not fully forging Us; and accepting ALL that Jesus and His Church make possible for US in accepting God;s Forgiveness,
