I have finished reading all the 4 gospels and one thing I realise is that whenever Jesus appears to the diciples, they don’t recognise Him? How come?

Perhaps Jesus intends to broaden the disciples understanding of what his death and resurrection mean for all of us. He could be anybody

One explanation is that his resurrected body was perfected and so it truly looked different. Perhaps you can imagine how you might not recognize a friend at first if he wore different clothes, had his hair in a different style, spoke in a different tone, stood with a different posture, and walked with a different gait. After a while, you would recognize him.

Especially after Jesus’s cloth has been taken away before he is crucified. Jesus also left behind the cloth that wraps his body. With nothing to wear, I guess you are right, he must be wearing something else. Also, the blood marks on his body, head and hands too.

To demonstrate the importance of the Holy Eucharist in order to recognise Jesus.

I think all points above are valid and also He shows Himself when it is the best time/s. He wanted them to be witnesses, not only for then but for all times so that they can be witnesses in all situations. The purpose of the resurrection wasn’t to come back and say Hi to his friends it was to show them (and all mankind, through them ) that we had been redeemed. So He didn’t need to produce some big show, He needed the point to be made no more, no less. I think it’s possible they had to be made ready in some instances in His presence, like on the way to Emmaus, cos their hearts are ready but their bodies aren’t yet ie their spirit believes but their flesh/will etc. doesn’t yet until the breaking of the bread. So Jesus has prepared them on the way. It is a big thing to get your head around I imagine, even if you have lived and listened to the Son of God for 3yrs it is still pretty big to understand just how mighty He is. I think Jesus was being gentle and hiding himself until they were able to accept it and revealing Himself gently to them.

In the case of the disciples on the road to Emmaus, the Bible says, “But their eyes were kept from recognizing him.” (Luke 24:16) Sounds to me like they were purposely (miraculously) kept from recognizing Jesus. Why? Perhaps this was done so that he could cultivate the faith of his disciples, their faith in his resurrection and their faith in him as the Christ, mainly by pointing out to them all that the prophets had spoken concerning the suffering, death and resurrection of the Christ, before these same disciples would themselves later that day at table become eye witnesses of his resurrection.

Congratulations on reading all 4 Gospels! I would say because Jesus did not want to be recognized and the Holy Spirit had not yet come. We all have that problem. Do we recognize Jesus in our fellow man?

Perhaps to show that our resurrected bodies can vary in appearance; that after resurrection, our appearance can be controlled by our spiritual souls.
…their bodies will be transformed by a joyous resurrection and clothed in the glory of immortality. No longer opposed in any way to their spirits, their bodies will remain in perfect harmony and unity with the will of the soul. Then, indeed, the outer man will be the peaceful and unblemished possession of the inner man.
(St. Leo the Great, pope Liturgy of Hours 22nd week Office of Readings)
I think of the different ways Jesus & Mary have looked in various apparitions. Sometimes Jesus has even appeared as a child.

I love that quote. How wonderful and incredible when our bodies and souls actually work together in complete harmony and peace.

What about some bodies that already turned to bones? During resurrection when our souls enters the bones and we look like bones? Will we grow new flesh?

We’ll just have to wait and see. It will all be so different in that realm. The physical laws we are subject to here in this world do not exist in the heavenly world.
As to what you’ll look like - it will probably be whatever you desire to look like. And you’ll desire only what pleases God. Lovely, lovely. 😇

Hopefully, I won’t look like a zombie with rotting flesh. Lol! 😂

I have thought it was because he was in his Glorified State. For example, He would just appear to His Disciples out of nowhere, in locked rooms. He vanished after His Disciples recognized Him after He appeared to them on the road to Emmaus and sat down for dinner with them. (after the breaking of the bread, which has it’s own significance).
