I can’t find a ready answer to this question by a non-believer friend. Why do we call Jesus’ death a sacrifice? A sacrifice means you give up something permanently. Jesus gave his life, but three days later it was restored. How is this a sacrifice? Thanks for any enlightenment.

A sacrifice can be defined as surrendering a possession as an offering to God. It doesn’t necessarily involve a permanent surrender.

Since Christ surrendered his life to the Father for the sake of saving the human race, his action can be rightly called a sacrifice.
