How is LIfe Teen Workng for your Youth?

I have several questions I would like to ask regarding Life Teen. I would like to know how Life Teen works for educating teens in parishes that have a Life Teen Program. Is it easy to get adults to participate on the Core Team? Do teens regularly attend? What times do you hold Life Teen classes? Do Core Team and Teens get burned out? I would appreciate any dialogue on this issue. Thank you in advance.
 
may I suggest this question more properly belongs on the Evangelization forum since it does not directly deal with Sacred Scripture and bible study. If you search there, you will find several threads on Life Teen giving various experience and evaluations that will answer your question. We have debated LT frequently here. My parish does not do it, my pastor will not allow it. My children participated since it was the only post-confirmation youth program in our area at the time, and at least they continued attending Mass, and did learn something. LT like any other such program is only as orthodox and worthwhile as the people implementing and leading it. Most of the egregious liturgical abuses have been remedied, as I understand. About the logistics I can’t tell you, but do search previous threads.

How easy You get adults? Depends on previous atmosphere in the specific Parish among priests and helping adults/ growing youth.
By mine experience in Slovenia - the Core Team crisis must be prevented (weekly!!) by following recommendation on Team Building in Christ. Otherwise the Core Team does burn off at least in 18 months - mostly for reasons as:
  • if there is a lack of spiritual support (weekly prayer meeting with priest or responsible Youth Minister attending),
  • if there is a lack of reflection & evaluation after every Life Evening (all Core Team feedbach time or at least the responsible Core members for that evening with responsible Youth Minister attending if possible),
  • if there is a lack of social time & building friendship which helps create a confident atmosphere among Core members.
  • if there is missing a retreat weekend & Core training at least twice a year,
  • if there is a lack of regular relationship between the Core members and teens to get them involved/ help at the mass, evening skit or other happenings as sports, charity …
  • if there is not enough members of the Core Team → depends on the complexity of the Parish program → /another experience of mine:/ for regular realization of LT prepositions for the weekly Mass and Life evening (with 4 weeks preparation time) there is a must of minimum 3-4 groups of 3-4 Core members forming a weekly responsible group, ie. 9-12 members, trained & supported regularly,

**Educating **teens in Youth ministry - if You mean a catholic knovledge & lifestyle - depends (not only, but important) on education & credibility of the preaching persons & team but also on the quality of families of the teens and developed family ministry or peer-to-peer ministry.
**Attendance **of teens depends again on interest &/or pressure - some parishes makes attendacy at LifeTeen mass & classes urgent for their pre-confirmational Youth (my English in not good, but I hope You understand). During 4 years at our Parish LifeTeen program the evening class regularly attended only a half or a third of all youth from the holly mass, most of age 14<19 years (from a year to year it changes with generations & mate-groups).
Our “classes” (Life night) followed the Sunday mass (Saturday evening): mass 7pm, Life night 8.30-10pm. Once more I must say that Life Teen program “classes” are catecheticaly-social biased with dynamics that get teens through four steps of the meeting:
  1. gathering with meeting new attendants, an introduction into the subject of the evening,
  2. teaching (preacher or video or interview with a guest or something else from the real life of the real people …),
  3. big group discussion or dynamic sharing in small groups, perhaps intimate meditation that concludes with prayer …
  4. sending teens with the message of the evening, a decision for life & apostolate, final prayer.
    Once a month there is a social evening with decent entertainment, snack or even dinner, organized social games. Once there is a biblical teaching, once Church/ faith truths/ catechism/ adoration with a theme & worship band.
    So LT “classes” are not the same twice, but always Christ-centered.
    Something else I would like to say: LifeTeen mass is not necessary a “rock band” or else - it depends on the Parish music ministry team and leader.
