they both are one of the heavenly virtues and deadly sins. But I wonder how will someone suffer/get rewarded in eternity for being lazy/diligent

Eternity - is not really explained in such detail, in the bible.
But on Earth - they say laziness - brings a person to poverty.
Saint Paul says - a lazy person shouldn’t even eat food.
He says to avoid lazy people too -

I was praying the rosary yesterday before mass - 20 others -
and it was the mystery of the crucifixion -
well, the virtue was " perseverance " !

Having a job helps - in earning your basic needs.
But one can be diligent in following God too -
I heard of this one guy - who read a gospel a day - and went to mass daily too.

can a person only be diligent if he has some job?
No, not everybody is employed outside of the home, children for instance, or the parents who stay home to care for them.
But children have their schoolwork they’re responsible for, and the SAHM/F has the responsibility for child care and household management.

The seven heavenly virtues are faith, hope, charity, fortitude, justice, temperance and prudence. Diligence is not among these, though I can see how it is a possible element of fortitude.

Diligence qualifies action, including responsibilities related to a job. The application of the term, however, is not limited to employment activities.

Laziness (sloth) is a slippery slope because being lazy in small things can lead to being lazy in important things. If we’re neglecting our responsibilities towards others or doing them badly, we’re hurting those around us. If we’re lazy in prayer, we’re hurting our relationship with God. If we’re not taking care of ourselves, we’re mistreating the bodies and lives God gave us.
