How is the LDS a cult?

How does a youtube video represent official church doctrine? Probably most churches held similar racist views concerning black people during the 1800’s.
This is not something I am interested in arguing. Do your own research, and come to your own conclusions. Mine is that the LDS was an extremely racist organization. I recently had a conversation with a black man who was working for Intercontinental Hotels when Marriott took over his place of employment. He had an MBA from Cornell, brilliant man who speaks four languages, etc., etc.

The new Marriott management required him to show them if he could bus tables, in case he wanted a job as a banquets server. Obviously, he quit the job, and went to work for a company that was not so bigoted. Marriott was a very Mormon company at the time. This would have been in the early 1980’s

If you take the time to do your research, you will find that the LDS had promoted racism until very recently.

Following your logic, the mormon channel videos on you tube aren’t accurate either.

Got it!!

BTW: check out post #530. I believe mormon scripture should be a good enough source for you shouldn’t it?

This thread has jogged my memory. I remember as a kid, visiting some friend in Salt Lake City. We were getting a tour of the town, and a black man was on the sidewalk. The driver of the car said… “And that is our black person.” And all the Mormon’s in the car thought that was a pretty funny statement. But the fact was, that I did not see another black person for the rest of the week that we were visiting. Non-white people were not admitted to the Mormon Church until 1978. The president of the US was threatening to revoke their tax exempt status, which is unprecedented in history. They were bigots.

Please… just do some research, instead of reacting emotionally.

Unfortunately, you cannot force someone to see, or understand the truth.

The fact that the mormon god changed his mind about racial policies because no top 10 school would play BYU is very telling. Not to mention painfully obvious to rational thinking individuals.

There was also that convenient “revelation” about polygamy when Emma caught him with Fanny. Viola!!! I had a “revelation”. He had secretly practiced it for 5 years before he got caught…I mean it became public. Did you know he tried to hit on a 12 yr old girl?

Then there is the Build it, and it will fail Condo and shopping mall complex that cost it’s membership Billions in tithing. Haven’t figured out that coincidence yet, but it will show soon enough.

LOL, check out my posting history, then get back to me.

I don’t have to rely on “my mother knew…” statements.

Good try though,

ETA: You might notice that I use mormon sources, and not anecdotal evidence to prove a point. Try it.👍

Prior to 1978, they told people of color, that the longer and more devoutly they practiced mormonism, then the whiter their skin would become.
Okay, I read that one out loud to my wife and she laughed herself silly.
:rotfl:

And we almost elected one president?

That the early church believed in the deification of man is no secret:
Revelation 3:21----King James Version (KJV)
21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
Irenaeus–Against Heresies–Book5, preface:
For it is thus that thou wilt both controvert them in a legitimate manner, and wilt be prepared to receive the proofs brought forward against them, casting away their doctrines as filth by means of the celestial faith; but following the only true and stedfast Teacher, the Word of God, our Lord Jesus Christ, who did, through His transcendent love, become what we are, that He might bring us to be even what He is Himself.
Lol. Where do you get this stuff?

The quotes are labeled–from the Biblical NT(Revelation)–and from “Against Heresies”–with Irenaeus as it’s author.
It says nothing like that

Where do you obtain information such as this? It simply is not true–but you seem to have your mind made up.

2 Nephi 5:21 still says:
Code:
"And he had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, and they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were **white**, and exceedingly fair and **delightsome**, that they might not be enticing unto my people the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them."
Also

3 Nephi 2:12-15 continues to teach that dark-skinned Lamanites who converted unto the Lord had their **curse “taken from them, and their skin became white **like unto the Nephites.”

dberrie2000.
How do you explain this?

Sure you let in Black members but you restricted them up to 1978 (both in priesthood and temple ordinances).

It would be like us saying you are welcome to be baptized in the Catholic church (or RCIA), take part in the Holy Mass, but because of your race, you cannot take part in Holy Communion.

Not really a member right?

If that is true–which it is–then Epan’s comment are simply not true.

How does that differ from the NT church disallowing the gospel to be taught to the Gentiles? From the priesthood? The OT not allowing any but those of a particular lineage to hold the priesthood? Not allowing any but a particular lineage to hold it today?

that is true. Blacks were admitted before 1978, but were second class citizens until it became a financial hazard to treat them that way

Are you serious? You truly cannot see the difference?

There is a BIG difference in a people who believe they chosen and a false church beliving one type of people is cursed and unworthy…

or shall I post the comments made by your leaders about blacks?

But God chose to exclude all from the priesthood, with the exception of a few from a particular linage–regardless of who believe they are the chosen, or who is worthy.

That is exclusivism–and may be manifested in a number of different ways. In fact–that exclusivism extended far beyond blacks in both the NT and the OT–and is still in effect, as to lineage.
or shall I post the comments made by your leaders about blacks?
One point here–the Bible has God practicing exclusivism throughout the Bible–regardless of what you can post about what LDS leaders have stated.

That seems to be the general practice of some–to run and kick Joseph Smith, Brigham Yound, Pratt, etc. between the legs when they wind up in a tight to produce something that will support their arguments.

First–one needs to examine what they feel is the standard of truth–the Bible. You can’t justify the exclusivism in the Biblical OT nor NT by resorting to an attack on Smith or Young.

The Bible testifies against your argument–regardless of who you believe said what in the LDS church.

Please explain for us how the LDS church goes about “making you pay”?
Well please explain how the verse has anything to do with what I said. Listen, you act as if no one here was ever mormon. There are alot of us that were at one time. So start answering the questions asked. Oh you cant without making yourself look like a (insert word). This tactic of yours may work with folks that dont know about this religion but we here do. And your tactic is twisting words and not answering questions because they either suite your needs or you know you dont have an answer for it.
