How is the ROSARY a "Powerful Weapon?" Need Examples

Hi Everyone!!!
St. Josemaria (whom I deeply admire), said
“The Rosary is a Powerful Weapon. Use it with confidence and you will be amazed
at the Results.”

Sister Lucia said that in our 20th Century, Our Lady has given “new efficacy” to the recitation of the Rosary, and that there is NO PROBLEM, no matter how serious,
that cannot be solved by the praying of the Rosary.

These statements are very bold, and suggest far more than mere (though important!!)
spiritual benefits.

So HOW is the Rosary a powerful weapon? I need to be directed to a souce
of examples of powerfully answered Rosary prayers.
I already know of two examples, but I need several more.
One is, in 1955 the Soviets (who never left a country once they occupied it, not ever),
were occupying mostly-catholic Austria. About 20,000 Catholic women led a Rosary crusade to beg God to get the Russians to leave, and lo and behold, in that same year,
1955, without any threats of force or threats of war against them, the Soviets simply UP and pulled out of Austria. Wow.
ANOTHER example is that a HUGE anti-communist rosary crusade in 1960’s Brazil
resulted in the rescue of Brazil from an out-and-out communist takeover.
And of course, there is the battle of Lepanto in 1570.
But these are only three, widely apart time-wise. I need to know answers to where
I and others can find examples (for apologetics purposes) of powerful answers
to prayer using the Rosary as our method/means of Petititon to God and our Lady.
Please respond asap, I really need the help.

Call me a pessimist but I don’t think many non Catholics let alone Catholics would know or understand the intercession of Mary. Look at who has even heard of apparitions of Mary. Maybe you could start with explaining intercession and why we believe in it. Also, maybe explain how the rosary came about (Benedictines? praying the Psalms-150 of them but us uneducated memorized a few prayers.) and how we focus on the mysteries of Jesus life. You may have to show how the Hail Mary is biblical also.

Read all you can about Padre Pio, who likewise called his rosary his “weapon”

The Secret of the Rosary by St. Louis De Montfort is powerful place to start. I have read mine so many times it is falling apart. There are so many examples shared in this book. The wonderful prayers of Our Father and Hail Mary explained in detail.

Dear kms,

You are correct that most non-Catholics do not understand the intercession of Mary, and I am also saddened (but not pessimistic) when I see Catholics uninformed about their Faith. Mary was chosen by God in a unique way in His Incarnation. God so loved the world He sent His Son born of a woman.

The Rosary is a powerful “weapon” against the powers of Satan who prowls around seeking someone to devour (1 Pet 5:8). If a person is sincerely searching for Truth in his/her life, then that person is open to receive the Holy Spirit and His Love for Mary. that person will want to keep learning and keep praying. It is helpful, as you have said, to give persons reasonable explanations from Scripture, Tradition and the Magisterium of the Church, but if they are not seeking Truth in the first place, we can only pray God gives them Grace.

Praying over the Gospels, especially the Gospel of Luke (where we hear the words “Hail Mary”) can help in understanding Mary; for as the Church teaches, everything we believe about Mary flows from our what we believe about Christ:

The Catechism of the Catholic Church gives us many good paragraphs to help us understand the intercession of Mary. In paragraph 971, it teaches that devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary is “intrinsic” to Christian worship and also that the Rosary is “an epitome of the Gospel”. Other helpful paragraphs : 969, 1434, 2156,2683

Too many Catholics today do not know the power of God’s Truth revealed in Mary. There is a tremendous need for more Adult Faith Formation in the Church among Catholics, as well as continuing good catechesis for children and youth. Those coming into the Church in RCIA programs also need a solid formation which includes a deeper understanding of Mary’s intercession. As Bl. John Paul II and now Pope Benedict have said we need a “new evangelization” in our time, which includes a “re-evangelization of Catholics”.

I felt your post was important. I’ll answer the original post also about the “powerful weapon” that the Rosary is, but I would encourage all reading this thread to pray and study the Catholic Faith we profess so that we are better able to share God’s “good news” with others. Mary is the “Star of the New Evangelization” because she leads us to Christ and with her we are called to bring Jesus to the world!

Dear Jaypeeto,

While I admire your enthusiasm to spread devotion to Our Lady, and particularly the practice of praying the Rosary, I am not so convinced that sharing “miracles” to prove the efficacy of the Rosary is the best way to convince anyone. It is true that St. Louis de Montfort wrote his book on “The Secret of the Rosary” including many stories of how Mary’s powerful intercession was made known through this prayer, but St. Louis lived in a time when there was more faith in his listeners. I believe St. Louis was able, especially through his preaching of “True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary” to kindle in many the graces of their baptism and help them understand Mary in God’s Plan of Salvation. St. Jose Marie Escriva and St. Padre Pio, likewise spoke of the Rosary mostly to believers. Unbelievers are not usually “impressed” by the testimony of the saints. Even after the miracle of the sun at Fatima, some do not believe, nor would they be willing to hear Sister Lucia’s words. The Truth, however, remains the Truth, no matter how many do not believe.

When striving to be an apologist, it seems to me that it is very important, to know not only our own faith but the backgrounds of our listeners, as well. St. Thomas said that we need to teach in the mode of the learner. Some in our world today do not know Christ at all, and some have a “Christ” of their own imagination. It is difficult for some to hear about Mary in the confusion of the present culture. I believe Blessed John Paul II ( your user name JPII = “jaypeeto”) gave us the best definition of catechesis in telling us that it is “to put persons into intimate communion with Christ”. The Gospels speak of Christ primarily, and only as we begin to open our hearts to Him do we begin to appreciate the wonderful revelation of His gift of Mary. Mary is the Star of the New Evangelization in guiding us toward Jesus. She helps us to be true disciples. As Catholics, we need to do as Mary did, becoming one with Christ in order to bring Him truly to others.

If you are seeking to defend Mary’s intercession, then I hope you have studied Scripture, Tradition and the Magisterium because the Catholic Church has the fullness of Truth concerning Mary. We pray the Rosary better as we learn from those sources of God’s Revelation. I have listed some paragraphs in the Catechism of the Catholic Church in my reply to kms123 on this thread before this reply to you, because it really is important to realize: not only are we called to evangelize non-Catholics who do not understand Mary, we are also called to “re-evangelize” Baptized Catholics who may have been incompletely catechized or who have some misunderstandings about Mary. I hope you have read JPII’s letter, “On the Most Holy Rosary”. It is a gem.

Let us all please pray for one another. Each of us was born to this time, by God’s Providence. May we receive from Him the fullness of His Spirit and with Mary bring Jesus to our world in such desperate need of Him.

True story from an article titled: “The last, unfinished sermon of a wonderful priest”

[Father] Kerr got the call from the police in the middle of the night to rush out to the sorority house. When he arrived he was told that all but one of the girls in the house were dead or near death, killed by a serial killer who was later to be known to the world as Ted Bundy. After giving those last rites to the dying college girl, then-Fr Kerr was asked by the police on the scene to talk to the girl who survived unscathed. They wanted to know how she survived the brutal attacks, because Bundy had stopped right inside the door to her room, dropped his weapon, and left without touching her. But the girl would talk to no one but a priest.

When Fr Kerr approached the near-catatonic girl, she told him that her mother had made her promise before going off to college for the first time that she would pray the Rosary every night before bed for protection; even if she fell asleep praying the Rosary, which she had that night so that when Bundy came into her room with murder on his mind, the beads were still clutched in her hands.

Later, Bundy would tell Monsignor that when he entered the girl’s room, he just couldn’t go on, he dropped his weapon, and he fled. Such is the power of our Mother’s protective mantle.

May I add my own experience?
In August of this year my cardiologist ran a series of tests and told me that the results indicated a blocked artery, most likely. He scheduled me for an angiogram and said he would place a stent if possible, but if not then I would have bypass surgery.

Before the procedure I was terrified and burst into tears and couldn’t stop crying. I asked the nurse to hand me my rosary out of my purse. I told her I knew they couldn’t let me take it into the OR, but if I could pray it until up to the last minuet, I would appreciate it. She said she’d see what she could do. So they wheeled me into the OR and my doctor, a Hindu, by the way, was very kind and said I could keep the rosary in my hand as long as it didn’t get in the way.

A little while later the doctor woke me up and said, “You don’t have any blockages. You don’t need a stent or a bypass. You’re fine.”

Today I’m fine. We have no idea what was causing my symptoms or why all the tests came back with the negative results that they did. But I absolutely believe that Our Blessed Lady heard my rosary and interceded for me. I absolutely believe that I was saved by the power of the rosary.

OH the power of Our Blessed Lady and the Rosary! Mary was there with you creole54. I first saw the same with my mother dying in the hospital. But she didn’t die! She got out of the bed and walked down the hall, then back to the bed. A large number of the doctors started coming to her room to just look at her for days. They just couldn’t believe what had happened. My mother said, Jesus and Mary! I’m sure she had her Rosary close at hand, if not in her hand. That’s when my life changed. The Beauty of my mother sitting in that hospital smiling at the doctors just blew me away. NO FEAR! Just Love, and total trust in Jesus and Mary, praying the Rosary. I now pray the Rosary every night. Blessings every day of my life!
 
I just want to share what I believe to be the meaning:

It has to be prayed and meditated slowly. The instant utterance of the first words

HAIL MARY!!! (It opens up the heaven) FULL OF GRACE, THE LORD IS WITH THEE, BLESSED ART THOU AMONGST WOMEN,(Say it with confidence as we are venerating her) AND BLESSED IS THE FRUIT OF THY WOMB… J E S U S(Say it sweetly as it comes from the heart. At this stage, Mary crushes the head of the devil as she holds and lifts up to proclaim your savior/lord/god and protects JESUS(and all her children, us, who are brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ) and protects us from the devil and all the other evil spirits as they are unable to stand you praying this). The evil spirits hate it. HOLY MARY!! MOTHER OF GOD!!! PRAY FOR US SINNERS, NOW AND AT THE HOUR OF OUR DEATH.(*We are asking her to keep us in her prayers and intercession to protect us always from the snares of the devil. (When one is scared, call upon her to comfort you as she is your heavenly mother and she awaits for you and guide you until you return home to heaven.)*AMEN.

This is why the HOLY Rosary is very powerful weapon against the devil and evil spirits. Again, it must be meditated and understood the full meaning of it for it to work.
