How long did it take you to convert to Catholicism?

Hey everyone,

I was just wondering how long it took for you fellow converts to finally decide to come to the Catholic Church? How long was you journey?

I have a very bizarre journey.

I was eight years old when I decided to convert. I had never been baptised but attended an Anglican church and went to Catholic school. It took another four years for me to be baptised as a Catholic, then another year to take First Communion. At 16 I took RCIA and was confirmed at 17.

I may only have been eight years old but I knew where my home was. 👍
 
Went to Salvation Army with Mum, brothers and sister.

Went to Catholic church once with Dad, it seemed right.

That’s what I wanted.

Luckily my Mum converted soon after and we went with her.
 
I decided the minute I attended a Traditional Latin Mass, which was about 1-2 weeks after I started exploring Catholicism.

I wanted to start RCIA immediately, but had to wait for four months. 🙂
 
I grew up without religion, but I remember when I was a child I had a longing to be Catholic. I didn’t understand much but the pull was strong. But it was only when I was 16 that I started RCIA. Best decision of my life.
 
I see my conversion as a life-long thing, so I have to say 37 years to convert and counting from there, still converting my heart, mind, and soul to be fully Catholic. 😃

I was brought up Episcopalian, but my family left the ECA after my father died when I was around 13 for the Assemblies of God where I stayed until my 30’s, when I returned to the ECA, wasn’t content there, and so was reconciled to the Catholic Church at age 37. That’s it in a nutshell.
 
Pope JPII died in April of '05. (for me, his death held the grace of healing of my soul)

In Jan of '06 was when I first contacted the parish (now my parish) up the street and began the inquiry phase of RCIA. June of '06 when the the rite of welcoming and started the offical RCIA program.

Came into full communion Easter Vigil '07 (I had been baptized a Catholic so it’s more accurate to say “came into full communion” and not so much “converted”)

All that being said, I had long ago began striving to be an authentic disciple of Our Lord so that relationship and intimacy had the begining of the foundation laid out back in early 80’s.
 
I first thought I might want to become Catholic some time in Middle School when I attended my first mass (in a beautiful Gothlic style church), but it was just a fleeting thought and I later became rather anti-Catholic. I began considering the Catholic Church again in 10th grade and realized I wanted to be Catholic sometime in the following summer. I entered RCIA the fall of my freshman year of college and was recieved the next Easter Vigil in 2004, at the age of 18. So I guess about three years from my 10th grade renewed interest to my reception into the Church.
 
One month exactly for my initial conversion. 😃

It has been a long process of continuing conversion ever since. 😉
 
I was a pagan (Wiccan) for fifteen years, then Christ touched my heart in 2006 and I began studying Catholicism (and I owe a HUGE thank you to my wonderful Catholic friend who helped me on that path). I started attending Mass two years ago and started my RCIA classes this past September. The more I learn, the more I realize that this is the ONLY thing that has ever felt “right” in my heart! 😃
 
I knew in high school that I felt pulled to Catholicism but my family hates religion so I kept it largely a secret. Now that I’m an adult, I am attending RCIA and an loving every minute of it.
 
I was Pentecostal. Fully believed the CC was of the devil and all Catholics were going to hell unless they saw “the truth”. One day happened to flip to EWTN on CAL. I heard about three of my objections answered logically and scripturally within the first 45 minutes or so. Decided to do more research. 3 months later, decided that the CC is where God has intended me to be. Started RCIA in August. Anxiously awaiting Easter Vigil.

That’s it in a nutshell.

Kudos to you. Half of my family is Pentecostal. I grew up Baptist and Pentecostal. In fact, I used to sing solos in the pentecostal church as a 6-8 year old.

More recently I spent about 6 years in a liberal reformed church. I am not so sure that I would have been e able to convert from Pentecostalism to the CC.

God has shown you much favor. 🙂

Way to go…DJE. 👍

How is RCIA so far? I can tell how anxious you are…it will all be worth it when you receive the body, blood, soul and divinity on Easter.

From the time I first started attending mass to becoming baptized and confirmed, about 4 years. But I’m not one to just jump into things and I desperately wanted my husband to come with me and that took some time also. But he did 😃

Not to derail the thread…RCIA is ok. Not as educational nor as fun as I thought it’d be. But I’m trying to make the best out of it. I try to get conversations started. I think this is a way that God is giving me patience as I normally don’t have very much.

🤷😃
